Just want to give the kid a shout out, has been very impressive since he has started to play more minutes

At full strength I don't see him in the top 17 however which is disappointing as he is only going to improve by playing more 1st grade now

Yep... gonna do some rounding-off with the numbers here but 19 minutes, 45 metres (21 of them post-contact), 1 tackle-bust and 22 tackles. It was a solid game for him.

Be interesting to see where he goes. With Collins and SST returning I agree he'll probably get punted from our 17. Good to have depth players like him though as I dare say we'll be calling on him during key moments of the season/finals where injuries/suspensions make others unavailable. I trust him to get the job done in those moments and am glad Robbo's blooded him already.

His long-term future may well be with the Riff (as rumoured). Who knows though? He's on our books for now and the Riff's dynasty will end eventually, with them having to release a stack of current players (maybe this year if we can belt 'em outta the finals... they're beatable). He's not yet ready to get $$$ on the open market so let's hope he continues to develop within our systems for now.

If Robbo goes for 4 props when SST and Collins come back then surely May will just replace SST next year. Good back up for this year.

Regan Hughes for the Bears looks a possible NRL player as well

Someone from Baker, May, Vaa, Hau Tapuha, Atoni and Hughes will surely step up and into our regular 17 as the 4th pig

may was good - i thought egan butch, watson and him defended well in the middle after half time

Assuming Collins doesn't play for the rest of the year, I'd find a spot for May in the 17 even when SST comes back. I'd drop Hutch given he gets a token 5 minutes at the end.

Robbo has shown his hand with Hutch, I think he will basically be picked every week

May looks like he has a bit of x factor about him.

I think Egan Butcher already has.

Hutch is purely there for injury cover. I have no problem with him being there.

Assume Manu and Walker go down what's your in game adjustments?

                      Or Verrills and Keary?

The question needs to be does the 15-20 minutes May is going to get on the bench that he will have to pinch off forwards already capable of playing extra minutes outweigh the risk of making in game adjustments that are going to leave us very vulnerable.

Not having genuine positonal coverage on the bench may cost us a game but picking May on the bench is not going to win us a game. So it's an easy one for me, one of Hutch or Keighran would always be on my bench.

I'd pick Watson to cover those positions. Hutch offers next to nothing when not playing in the halves imo

Yep. Watto to cover for hooker and halves. Gus for centre. Egan into the back row.
I love Hutch and he has done a great job covering our many injuries the last two years but he is surplus on the bench when SST and Collins are back. Watto has more x factor.

teddy said in the presser that he's expecting collins to come back so you'd figure hutch would be the unlucky one to miss out with watson able to cover in the backs if needed

Watson is a lock forward, his value in that role can't be underestimated. Yes he offers some utility value but to my original point you need more than one player who offers utility value and Watson should continue to be picked as a lock.
