What a crock of shit. He’s a public figure. He’s the captain of his club. He’s a role-model. Plus he’s dumb enough to get caught. I’d be shattered if this was our captain.

hahaha you were making perfect sense saying who gives a toss - just turn a blind eye it's common place in todays younger society. But then you went and made some bullshit excuse like give him a break he's looking for consolations- hahahaha - he's doing what he'd be doing regardless. Anyway I agree with your original sentiments if we are hanging him out to dry for doing this we have to hang out 50% of 18-35r olds whilst we are at it. Why big deal

The club and all clubs rely on external sponsorship and this may effect that .His job and he is paid well is to be the face of the Knights at all times on and off the field .
I get all that and I understand the realities of running a business - they will have to take action here because it will be expected by their sponsors and stakeholders. But it’s all damage control to make sure they protect their brand not because they actually think anything that bad happened.

My problem is the club only looks bad because people get outraged. Not because the two guys have hurt anyone or infringed on anyone else’s rights but because there’s this faux outrage trend where a bunch of society pretends to care for a period of time that young 20yr olds are doing drugs. Lets put it down to his job, his pay packet, his responsibility to be a role model… or some other level of bullshit when in reality when you break it down they’re just a representation of society.

Then there’s this delusional that it’s a Newcastle Knights issue, as if there’s not players at every single club partaking in recreational drug use, as if theres’ not hoards of 20yrs olds doing recreational drugs at record high levels on a nightly basis across the country.

It’s all just so strange to me and after a weekend of talking about mental health how quickly everyone has been to move on from that discussion to try and cancel a 20yr old kid who chose to do something that didn’t harm anyone else but himself.

I’m more concerned about the media’s ease in being able destroy someone’s reputation over something that didn’t impact anyone else on that night than I am about 2 kids snorting some coke in a bathroom stall. That’s what is strange and weird to me about the whole situation.

You care because the media cares which means the sponsors care which means it does the club harm.

But do you really care that someone chooses to do recreational drugs in their own time?

You've been around long enough to know what Fittler was like as a player and a coach were you really shattered when you heard about that?

Sickening watching the vultures like Kent and Hooper come in and rip this kid to shreds over something that doesn’t haven any impact on them.

I hope Ponga is ok, he’s had a couple of wild months.
              Crazy comment.

Just because it’s done every weekend and weekday doesn’t mean it’s right and people can feel let down by their actions and rightly so. Role models or not, if it’s drugs, there’s no defence.

So if 50% of 18-35yos go round selling drugs to kids, maybe bashing old people or stealing cars then using them to commit other crimes, it’s ok?

Normalising illegal behaviour doesn’t fix the problem. It only makes it worse which is why many on here are even having this discussion.

                    Not harming anyone?

That’l do me. You must be related or something to him to defend such actions.

Hang on, in the post above this one, you said he wasn’t harming anyone yet in this quote, he is harming his club.

                      I don’t understand?

That’s certainly one way to twist a comment way out of context.

My argument is all individuals should be free to chose what they do in their personal life outside of work so long as it doesn’t harm or infringe on anyone else, not held to a higher standard because of their pay bracket or title at work.

Drugs, alcohol & gambling is a weekend vice for many in our country. Without moderation it leads to terrible consequences and that’s a sad reality. But if you’re going to care about kids doing drugs then care about kids doing drugs every week… don’t just care because someone famous did it and the media are feeding you information about it.

No organisation in Australia could or would condone their most high profile employee being photographed as Ponga was.

Media is not destroying there reputations .They are doing that themselves. .Like a lot of people you seem intent on blaming others for players bad behaviour instead.off them taking responsibility themselves. At the end of the day cocaine if that's what they were doing is illegal .Not saying it should be as that's another discussion but it is .I'm not saying they were doing drugs or even maybe something else which again is illegal in a public place . .Whatever they were up to it's not a good look for them or there employers. We all dispute age or status are and should be held to account for our behaviour.Thats the trouble we keep moving the line in the sand .

It’s the faux outrage manufactured by media outlets that does the damage, not the action.

Paul Kent & James Hooper will always find something to be outraged by, this is the part I find strange why as a society we haven’t caught on yet.

Remember Tigers playing pokies outrage? Spare me with they harmed their club

Having personally had loved ones in my life adversely effected by drugs and therefor there family adversely affected because of that I respected and strongly disagree . They are and should be illegal
