  • Well I'll be fuucked.

Where the hell did that come from? Who taught us to run second man plays and play with structure all in a week? Who taught the forwards to run hard? Who rediscovered the grubber? And who the FUUCK slipped something into his spag bol and taught Mini to pass!?!?

Credit where credit is due, great effort from the team. Standouts were Pearce, Kennedy, JWH, MAubs and SKD. Jared Waerea has got to be re-signed. Even in some shite team efforts this year he has been good, and when the rest support him like last night he is a force.

Minichiello had a cracker, if he could do that every week it would be incredible. Still not convinced that those type of performances aren't exceptions to the norm though.

I'll put my hand up and admit that I've been very negative over the past couple of weeks, perhaps too much so. Still, I have always maintained that the problems at this club always run back to Smith. As poor as guys like Anasta and Mini have been, the fact that we've been structureless in attack and defence has been far and away our biggest problem. I've also said that if Smith miraculously wakes up to himself re the "ad-lib" nonsense, we'd be a much better side. This week, all of that went away, and we played with structure and purpose. If it isn't an aberration, and we keep running those second man plays and shifting the ball, all team members will benefit.

There are still a couple of constructive criticisms to be made. Firstly, this win is not justification for continuing to pick guys like JCarney and Arona. Yeah, they might have played solid games, but it is hard to look bad when your team is rolling the forward pack and shifting the ball. The fact that we look hungry and likely is all the more reason to pick guys like Tagive and even Moga, so that we not only dominate up the middle, but that we have class on the edges to finish it all off. Secondly, we have some very important recruitment decisions to be made. Letting Braith go was a fantastic move, and it showed last night. It gives the guys a bit of motivation (someone to play for - Braith is a good bloke, I reckon the playing group both like and respect him), but also, Braith had his best game for us in aaages... and it still wasn't that good. That right there is proof that he is well past any renaissance... his best games are decidedly average. Thirdly, a note to people on here saying things like Kennedy is the best young prop in the game and all that - most weeks, our forwards won't play like that. SKD will drop the pill, Mini will get hammered, the service out of dummy half will be shit, and Pearce will look headless. That is the nature of this side - young and mercurial. Building them up to be something they aren't (which is what happened pre-season) will only lead to disappointment. They are a work in progress, big-time.

All in all, very happy to be eating humble pie this week. I don't think it will happen often this year, and I'm not convinced our game plan this week was the norm, rather an aberration. Still, it is a big improvement.

    • If the players do the simple things right then we can win plenty thats what they did last night the ability is there and the discipline is a work in progress - if the penalties ever go away we would be very hard to beat.
You have to ask why we get whipped in the penalties so much last 7 years we have different players and different coaches so again I say our club leaders are weak and must tackle the issue front on ASAP or fielding a team in this comp is a waste of time.
Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the universe

        • Overall it was a pretty good win.
The A Mitchell to starting No 9 worked but then Mitchell took it to far he went & scored a try, so he was immediately hooked. As far as I know he was not injured & for the life of me I cant work out why he never came back on. One of your best Smithy.

Aubusson & JWH were outstanding. JWH has to be resigned, not interchanging him in the 1st half was a good move by Smith. I liked what I saw from Kennedy last night, the beard has to stay & he also needs to play for longer stints.
Taka's, another one who needs to be given more game time, he had a fantastic game. As I have posted before Cordner is not ready for a starting position.

Pearce. I liked most of what I saw of him last night. Was it because A Mitchell started the game? I think yes. He ran well, his service down the R side was 1st class, that Pearce Maubs SKD Perrett combo can be very good, he was instrumental in the final try by Mini. Again the 5th tackle options in the 69th 71st & 73rd minute in the Warriors 20 metre zone were diabolical, Friend is on at this stage. The 2 times we did get repeat sets they were from a Mini grubber & I think a Takairangi grubber. Twice on the 5th Pearce was at dummy half. I know it's not totally his fault but it just shows me he is still developing. BJ Carney & Perrett were all solid.

It wasn't one of Tasi best games, Arona was good.
Braith... Mmmmmm Did not get involved enough, nice little kick down the short side in the 2nd half, him & Taka's misread the play for the Warriors 1st try. 5 out 6 goals was good.

For me Mitch Aubusson was our best & should not be moved from the backrow, he is our best backrower.
Im bloody happy for the team & congrats to Smith on his 300th win.

          • Great win by the lads against tough opposition.

Its all about confidence and belief in themselves and it stayed there for 80min last night - only lasted 40 against Melbourne and the carve-up.

When we play that faster up tempo game you know we are in the best zone for us. Sure there will be mistakes but you live that. Great to see a variety of last tackle options employed than just the bomb. Some surprising selections and bench choices but coach was vindicated last night. Felt sorry for Boyd...not sure what was going on there.

Great atmosphere at the ground and back at the club afterwards for the post-match. Jared was Players Player...surprised me I thought Marty K was a runaway Man of the Match. Everyone contributed something positive though.

I put the win down to the real intimidation factor I forwards brought to the game last night...the Warriors were basically shit-scared to be honest and coul nt match us in that Dept. The rest of the game flowed from there.

            3 from 5 - Go Easts!

              Good post Lickey.

Any irony Pearce plays a lot better with a 2nd option in attack, Mitchell played great.

And I noticed Pearce at dummy half on the last a few times, I'm sure it was when Friendly was on the park. On at least one of those occasions Pearce had to go to dummy half, as there was no one else ready to do the job.

Maubs is our most consistent performer, has been since he debuted. No irony in how inconsistent we were last season without him IMO. I hope he gets the skippers role next season.

              You know it makes sense.

Yeah that was the 2nd try. I think Braith didn't want to slide across cos he'd been having nightmares of Slater making a fool of him all week. Taka chased from marker and had Maloney covered. I do hope Braith didn't just want to put a hit on the bloke taking his job. Because he should have seen the Fish tailing around and slid off.

Cant remember what minute but yes to 'me-wantee', there wasnt much in it but the fact it was JWH just had me scared. Hes a target.

You should have heard the boos the Warriors player copped from the Roosters faithful as he feigned injury and was assisted from the field.

It sounded scary on ABC Grandstand..shades of Scott Prince in the 2010 preliminary final? Clutching the wrong arm and falling to the ground..
