Another anti-roosters article in the South Sydney Morning Herald

Malcolm writes well about cricket, and does have a nice style. The problem is being Victorian he knows nothing about Rugby League, but at Origin time and Semi Finals time, with his employers the Nine Network owning the paper now, he has to try and write about the NRL. The failings of the salary cap is the theme he usually rolls out, lacking the actual understanding of the game to offer anything approaching analysis of any actual play.
This article about Roosters "salary cap sombreros", inane comparisons with T20 Cricket drafts, and a complete ignorance when it comes to young player development (ie Joey Manu) is pretty poor. That's what lefties do though - criticize and talk down success. Even when they don't know what they're talking about, as Malcolm so obviously doesn't here.
Knox is from Sydney and went to controversial Knox Grammar.
Weak teams should stop expecting handouts, and should focus on managing their club better.
People had the Cowboys as wooden-spooners at the start of the season - now they're going to finish in the top 4. And because of that, more players are going to want to go there, and are more likely to go there on less money.
The Broncos have all the money in the world, and have been abysmal for several years, and might bomb out of the 8 this year, too.
The reason that the Chooks and Storm have been so insanely dominant isn't because they cheat. It's because they have the two best coaches in the game. It's no surprise that prior to Trent's arrival at Bondi, we were in dire straits.
There is usually one surprise packet club each year who surges into the top 4, or thereabouts, on the back of great coaching, a strong work ethic, and shrewd requirement.
I also fail to see how going out and buying a few key players to bolster your Premiership credentials is a bad thing. How would anyone compete with a team like the Broncos if they couldn't?
As a sidenote, putting multiple "lol's" in your article reads as extremely juvenile.
Manu lived in NZ, was a schoolboy.
He used to fly to Australia on Thursdays, play in the Roosters juniors at weekends, then return to Auckland for school the next week...mrs bb says.
We signed Suaalii as a schoolboy.
Tedesco, when we signed him, certainly was not the player he is today.
SBW ...we released/didn't re-sign players to be able to sign him.
The points system will never happen. Don't know why it is repeatedly brought up. Same goes for the draft. If they really wanted to even up the comp then piss off some teams. Nowhere near enough talent to spread across 17 teams to make it even. Again that will never happen.
Let me guess - Malcolm Knox is a bald- headed guy with glasses that works for the SMH and got his job there after university.
He never once played Rugby League.
Whilst at university, he had lecturers preach to him the evils of all corporations, the fact that corporations make obscene profits, corporations are responsible for down-trodden workers, wealth is evil, the government is good, communism is good, and all people should be equal, and the wealth should be distributed to everyone equally ( but with the proviso that the Government has the real money) .
I got this same bullshit forced down my throat when I was at Uni & Malcolm Knox sucks these ideas up, and knows that they are right.
As for the Roosters, they are a wealthy club, with a successful and driven coach, who brings about more success for the club.
"You can't have that" writes Malcolm Knox - it is better if all clubs are equal, they are coached by guys like Malcolm Knox (straight out of uni) who are morons and have no clue about football (at least then they are equal) and if all clubs have 2 star players, and the rest of the players are schmucks , it will be an even competition, and the clubs can play each other every week, and all the results of those matches will be drawn games.
But it would be so good to watch, wouldn't it?
Utopia - Malcolm Knox- it would be Utopia.
There have been some great replies on this thread, but yours is my favourite.
I like how most of us on a friggin footy forum are smarter and possess far better writing skills than the "journalists".
You know nuthin knox. Stick to cricket you muppet.
Such lazy tropes only serve to reinforce ignorant consensus. It will continue to be part of being a Roosters supporter whilst ever knobs like knox can pump out such drivel.
How do Player and Rooster Mac work out the Knox is a "Lefty" (a unique one at 9 Entertainment if he is) and what has that got to do with anything? Media people, left or right, occasionally have political agendas usually dictated by a proprietor but more often they're in the difficult business of churning out a column from scratch. If controversy results, so much the better - easy copy for a further column or two.
Knox's column in question comes out of Gould's recent obsession (the same pressure affects him as a media commentator) and he's right to a point, there's a talent imbalance but that has always been the case. At least it's not the Taj Mahal situation where a club can win 11 straight premierships. Poor blending of personalities leading to poor morale, deficient coaching talent (the inspiring ones are even scarcer than the game winners) and Club cultures that lack the emotional glue that leads to "buy in" by the playing group are some of the reasons that things are now what they've always been - lopsided.
Someone like Robbo offers a template for success. Few big names but lotsa buy in to something well defined combined with thoughtful and genuine pastoral care. Hastings' recent remarks provide insight - the newcomer gets the uniform treatment - arrive at training then do the rounds of morning greetings - office staff and all - excellent for an inflated ego - you're not the only one contributing to this club's success. Late for training? Do the greeting rounds and then go home, see ya tomorra. Gentle, friendly, no rancour, no opportunity to blame anyone but yourself but a day to reflect on your responsibility to the team - do you wanna buy in or not? Of course, the gravitas of the person censuring with the confident velvet glove approach is the important element - see Bellamy, Skeletor and our own guy.

Cause that's what lefties do - blame anyone more successful than them and demand "equity". Simple. Costello may part own the SMH, who cares. He's happy for the morons who "write" for it to tell life's sore losers what they want to hear and take their money.
This assshole must be a Souths fan.... he could be sued for libel for writing this trash, I expect us to take action and get a full retraction, he is basically calling us cheats, and ofcourse he has no proof, because there isn't any.
