Of course scans will diagnose the grade

1. Grade 1. A mild or partial stretch or tearing of a few muscle fibers. The muscle is tender and painful, but maintains its normal strength. - recovery time - 2 to 4 week
2. Grade 2. A moderate stretch or tearing of more muscle fibers. The muscle is more tender, and there is pain - recovery time - 4 to 8 weeks
3. Grade 3. A severe tear of the muscle fibers - recovery time - 3 to 4 months as it often requires surgery
