Team lists are named for a number of reasons. Betting for one, which the game makes an absolute motza through. The NRL has been smart enough to get a slice of the gambling pie from the betting agencies (As well as all the sponsorship that individual clubs get) and no doubt enforcing a rule which actually means the teams named on tuesday will actually play on the weekend would help them to set the right odds, increase their takings and in turn increase the share for the NRL.

There is also the added benefit of team stability. Players knowing that when they are named on tuesday they WILL be playing on the weekend has to do good things for their confidence. On top of which, throwing a kid into his debut at the last minute with a number in the 20s on his back is also not giving him an ideal prep. Bennett and Bellamy have never bothered with playing these stupid mind games with their players and/or the opposition so I don't see any call for any other coach to be doing it.
Do you always just read and answer the parts of the posts that suit your agenda mate???

The rules are 1 hour before kick off. I can't see any reason you've banged on about that would benefit a change to the current rule.

I guess we agree to disagree on another point.

May I ask have you ever played footy at any level mate??? Not being a smartarse, just often people's opinions on certain matters tell a story as to whether they've actually been in a dressing room as a player/coach or as a coat hanger. Either way I'm not going to judge you, I just find these observations interesting.

Danish, what if player A is selected on Tuesday then on Thursday is arrested for committing any number of atrocities associated with footballers, or even just misses training because he slept in, or dropped the ball at training 20 times, or any number of reasons other than injury a player may be dropped in the space of half a week???

It's too hard to limit changes to injury only in my opinion.

Disciplinary sanctions can be included, sure, but thats a rather rare exception.

I doubt too many players have been dropped a couple days out from a game because they dropped a ball at training.

Too many of these types nowadays. These wankers that hang around NRL clubs/players thinking their "it". What ever happened to the "Rugby League" fan? All these NRL wannabe fanboys sheeeet me. I'd rather go down to the local club on a sunday and watch the under 8's through to the under 17's play all day then to sit on my arse watching the NRL all weekend. Too many fans of the sport, not enough of these "fans" know how the fark to play the game of Rugby League.

Damn the force is strong in this one.

Very well put post, IMO of course.

And just to add not everyone belongs in that category. IMO it's a team sport thing often. You learn a lot IMO from the team environment. And some aren't footballers but can have very good opinions on the game, after all reffs need to start somewhere.

But yeah often the biggest online knobs are coat hangers from what I've observed anyways. Although some of the ladies that grace this forum, may have not been footballers but I'm sure they have some great ballskills , have very good opinions and knowledge of the game.

It's the angle that people view the game from that interests me at times. Good discussion though.

Oh mate back in the day when I was a little bloke the girls loved playing footy and they were pretty bloody good at it too. I remember after they reached 10, they couldnt play anymore due to state regulations based on girls playing Rugby League. Fast forward a few years and into high school, the same girls who played, brilliant dude, brilliant players. My missus knows as much about the game as I do, fark I taught her well enough. If my reply looked sexest its because I clearly left it out without using the old head of mine. I just find there's too many soft cock fans around who'd rather sit watching the NRL all weekend, playin with themself over their favourite players rather than getting out there and seeing the game for what it is. Women and Men alike. There's more to rugby league than just the NRL. Don't even get me started on these idiots who hang around the players like a bad smell. Total retards.

Do you not see the benefit to betting agencies (who invest millions in the game, as well as pay out millions to the NRL in profit sharing) would have from knowing that the team lists announced on tuesday are actually likely to be the team that runs out on the weekend barring injury?

Yes I have. At school and in the canterbury comp (although only outside of school for 2 years). I've also played other team sports at a state level, as well as individual.

What benefit do you think players get from being named then not playing or vice versa by certain coaches? Why do you think there is a correlation between coaches that play these stupid games, and coaches who tend to have very little success?

talk about the tail wagging the dog. The betting agencies are making a lot more money out of the game than they are giving.. significant multiples more.. Now you want to let them dictate when teams can be selected? So after a monday night game a coach has just a few hours to assess form, performances, the opposition before naming a team and you want to penalize the club if they make changes later.. This is one of the most ludicrous things I have ever read on any sporting forum.

Firstly I can't multi quote on this iPad thingy, lol.

I do agree with CocKadoodledoo, betting doesn't even enter the equation IMO. In fact I don't feel the need to appease that part of the game at all, and think it's dangerous, as witnessed in other sports, when we allow the tail to wag the dog as Cockers said.

I believe what players are being told is vastly different to what we are told by ALL coaches often. That's evident when on Tuesday or Wednesday they're twattering the truth. As for stoopid games I've seen many a player comment on the fact, especially as a rookie, their coach has told them on the morning of a game that it's go time. That's to save some kids from getting too nervous and overplaying the game mid week, which has happened to many players in the past.

I bet I'm right in saying all club coaches mostly don't give a fark about the Tuesday team sheet thing, it's just another bullshit thing they have to go along with, for the sake of the PC brigade running our game. And as for their care for the media or the gambling industry, IMO if they even for one second consider those things they don't deserve to be a coach.

Gus was the master of mind games, ALL coaches use them with their players and their oppositions, it's part of the arsenal. I've heard stories of Waynekerr using them, Bellyache, Hasler, Sheens etcetcetc. Many just are searching for some reason, any reason, to blame Smiff at the moment. The mind games never mattered in 2010 now did they.

As for us fans, most of us are mental and don't really matter as much as what we'd like to think we do. Sure everyone talks it up but it's a professional game and those running the side have more to worry about than offending some dingbats who wave flags and cheer from the sidelines. That's fact mate and to think otherwise would be naive. Besides that's what PR people and marketing people are for, the buffers.

I say that with the best intentions toward us all. We pay our hard earned yep, but reality is another thing. That's why I don't follow players as hard as a lot of youse do. I understand the reality of the game and pro sport in general. I love the thing that sits above the left Titt. I love the Coqq.

Good to see you were a player. Again I just use that as a check sometimes with people's opinions. Not to say ex-players know more than anyone else, it's just the level of the view I believe.
