Only checked out the members section on the public open day, bar in the members area sensational, padded seats on level 2 of the members great, the upper section of the members very steep gradient and the exit points seems narrower than the old SFS, would assume it would be the same on the upper level on the other side.
As for match day, the bottom concourse beautiful and wide, sat in the middle section bay 230 next to some of the open corporate boxes on the Eastern side, strange narrow corridor to get those bays 228-230. Seats were so flimsy, they would wobble every time someone moved, felt like they could break at any time, someone mentioned there were no drink holders in the seats, there certainly was were i sat as i had my water bottle in there. Food and beverage outlets easily accessed in that area with minimal queues and seemed the same when i walked around the bottom of the Eastern side. Couldn't see the Randwick corner sitting down where Toups scored and also a Souths player scored from bay 230 as everybody stood up . The seating behind the in goal area looked awesome though which was something the old SFS lacked, from high up the view looked great from there.
I like the new digs but not totally in love with it yet, the test will be next year when i sit in the members section.
As noted, it was ~$14 for a Young Henry's Newtowner... not a Great Northern (which I believe was more like ~$10 or $11). Never said the beers were cheap but IMO these are pretty bog standard 'venue' prices for craft beers. I'm glad they weren't serving VB!!! IMO the beers were an improvement on this basis (they were never cheap).
While I've mentioned my profession (and it apparently makes you feel insecure), I've never made the representation that doing the said job makes me smarter than anybody. Completing the training and finding a way forward with my life (which was a shambles at the time) was a decent achievement IMO. You don't have to agree (feel free to sledge me + say I know nothing). I may well know nothing, but I have a right to be proud of my little achievements in life. Thanks for trying to put me down about them when I'm talking about a farking footy stadium!
Good on you ism. Don't let them put you down. You should be proud of what you've achieved and the way you've come through all those hardships over the years.
Generally I think the new stadium is great, but I still would not want to be seated on the 'sunny side' of the stadium on a permanent basis - I was in bay 36 on Sunday and the glare was painful and it was bloody warm. Thankfully my season ticket is back over the other side in Bay 15 so it was a one off. It is a great stadium to move around in on the concourse, and plenty of eating and drinking options. Not to mention many more female toilets! But I do agree that the space between the seats and rows is minimal and it is a tight squeeze trying to get in and out of the rows.
After the last few years at the SCG I am more than happy to be back 'home' and look forward to watching plenty of footy there in future. I loved the old SFS and while I will miss the extra leg and seat room it had (and the non folding seat), I'm pretty stoked with the replacement and the positives outweigh the negatives between new and old.
Supporting the RW&B, through good times and bad times.
I love the new stadium.. great views and very close to the action. The food is good and fast, and I actually didn’t mind standing up at the top of the aisle yesterday to watch parts of the game. Either way you could have a good clear view.
Only issues are - When I stood up to cheer the boys I knocked over my beer TWICE as I placed it on the floor beneath the seat but unfortunately as I sat down most of freakin kicked them over.
How tight it is getting up out of your seat to go for a piss or get something, it’s almost like you dread it because the amount of legs and people you have to squeeze by is a nightmare. Someone even complained yesterday I overhead them saying “ They made the aisles narrower! What dopes “
Overall, I love it.
Yep the aisles are way too narrow. Someone will have a nasty fall.
The stadium is ok but I reckon they could have refurbed the old one for a fraction of the price and come up with a pretty similar result. It just feels like the old SFS spruced up a bit to me.
It's just OK from me. Not awful, but they could've done a whole lot better. It's certainly not as good as the old one.
Comments saying how good the views are from the concourse is actually the main issue for me. Those great views from that height could have been enjoyed from ......SEATS!....as they were in the old stadium. There were 6 to 8 more rows in the old stadium. The best views are from the upper bottom level in any stadium, and we have lost a lot of good seats in the new stadium. The stadium in Parramatta has the same issue. It's probably an access/egress issue, but they still could've done better! The bottom row shouldn't start at ground level, either - it should be raised. We were in row R, which was a pretty good view even though I usually sit some rows higher. The only trouble was, when people stood up I couldn't see what was happening in one of the corners, which is what used to happen in the western stand at Concord Oval. Maybe the rake of the seats isn't as good as the previous stadium, which they should've just fixed up and gone ahead with making Homebush a decent stadium. On the open day we checked out the upper levels. I wouldn't want to sit any further than halfway up the 2nd level. After that, it gets a bit like Eagle cam (and I hate Eagle cam!). It also seems there's less toilets for men and more for women now. The only trouble with that is, ABS figures show that twice as many men go to rugby league games as women.
We were told we wouldn't get wet when it rained......but we'd all heard that one before, so I'm glad I took my raincoat on opening night.
Speaking of opening night, I felt like I was being fried alive by those flames constantly going on while they played that very, very loud music.
But I'm sounding too much like a grumpy old man. There must be something good about it....Oh, yeah, the sign outside says 'Home To The Sydney Roosters'! Try as I might, I couldn't find any other NRL team's name on it!
The food overall is better quality (but no Oportos) . It still costs an arm and a leg, but eating before or afterwards is always an option.
They need to stick a coffee stand up the top level on big games, having to go down to the ground level is a long trek.
I'm not a beer drinker and can't drink the rubbish they sell in mixed spirits cans.
I think it's outstanding and we are incredibly lucky to have it as our home ground. . Went to both games and sat behind the posts both times and the view and closeness to the players was sensational.
The areas behind the seating are double the width than the old joint which makes a massive difference and the lines for food and beer move alot more quickly.
I've upgraded to a gold membership next year and can't wait for the sideline viewing.
If that sort of behaviour happens, they should be kicked out from being able to play there. Redfern would be a good fit for them.
Unfortunately Trackie, as the saying goes........you cannot put brains into statues.
The Riot squad cops don't fark around and will put them into place including the wannabes hoodlums who think it's cool to emulate Euro soccer and light flares
