The reason for the numbering system is as follows

Instead of lining up 1-17, the 11 already-capped Kangaroos in this year's 24-man squad have been given a number depending on the order they have previously played Test football.

The 13 debutants in the squad will be handed a number from 12 to 24 in alphabetical order

I reckon Australia are long odds to make the final, let alone win it. Tonga v NZ for mine in the final.... and it's a toss up who wins it.

I just don’t see Tonga having any quality in their spine to compete, I give Samoa a slightly better chance than Tonga, still think it will be Aus v NZ in the final.

Australia is still comfortably in the top 2 sides. It’s a shame we will probably meet NZ in the semi

This final can’t happen unless there’s a shock loss for one of them in the pool stage.

I know that, it still sucks though.

Really? Didn’t know that, is that just luck of the draw, or are they both not ranked in the top two teams?

NZ and AUS cannot play in the final..... they meet in a knock out semi if they both get that far

bit of both. Australia is ranked 4th because we haven’t played since 2019, which puts us on the same side of the draw as the kiwis. Bit of a shame. On the flip side there’s a pretty good chance of a Tonga v Samoa semi which would be epic

What happened to Samoa against England?

Rads man of the match. Complete thrashing though despite Samoa largely being high quality NRL players (including a heap of dudes from the Riff).

Papali'i, Paulo, Su'a, May, Taupau, Tulagi, Milford, Luai, Crichton, To'o, Hammer and Suali'i. How does that team lose to a bunch of poms?

Victor's post game interview after getting man of the match

                        https://www.nrl.com/news/2022/10/16/...-of-the-match/

How must that idiot Gary Schofield feel now after saying Victor shouldn't even be in the team....

Samoa must have been terrible, Poms scored 34 points in the last 15 mins.

Crichton was one of the Kangaroos best
, with Teddy building into it late.

Suaali’i had the most run metres & tackles busts in the Samoan team too which is quite impressive for a 19yo in a heavily beaten team.

Samoa really showed nothing. The one try they scored was against the run of play intercept. The halves combo just didnt work. Don't think Milford offered to much other than getting sin binned !
Suaali had a mixed bag ..couple of fumbles but very hard to look good in a side that is struggling up front. He did make one sensational bumping run though in the first half ...must've bumped off or pushed through at least 6 guys as he made about a 40mtr run ...all post contact yardage, but it came to sudden end when he just dropped the ball !

Victor was solid without being great, I can understand why he was a little embarrased for getting the MOM. His second stint he played dummy half and 3 or 4 of his passes hit the ground, but he'll get better as he finds his feet in amongst 16 blokes he's never played with. But thought a few of his teammates were unlucky not to get the MOM. The No.7 George Williams (ex Raider) was very good, 5/8 Welsby had terrific first half (except for throwing the intercept). Bronco Herbie Farnworth also had great game. Even Burgess was hard to handle for Samoa
England were good, but I thought Samoa was more dissapointing !

Interesting as he did similar during the finals when Souffs were beating us. In contrast... 'Trell was in a preliminary and went missing for a whole 60 minutes once he knew the tables had turned.

Personally I want the guy who goes hard regardless of what the scoreboard says and is there to play footy, not to be an ego.

A very selfless effort IMO as he was pretty much guaranteed a start with the Kangaroos.
