It wont impact clubs like people think it's going to.
Everyone has known for years now that the new TV deal for 2013 would see a big rise in the cap, this means player managers have had clauses written into their player's contracts that their salary will rise when the salary cap rises. There is no magical extra 700k that every club gets to spend all of a sudden...
If SBW signs and it seems to be getting to the point of not if but when it will cost us more than people on here seem to realise.
Youngsters off contract in the next 18 months;
Boyd Cordner
Lama Tasi
Jared Warea Hargreaves
Mitchell Aubusson
Mitchell Pearce
Aiden Guerra
Joseph Leilua
Brad Takarangi
We've got no players heading to retirement in the near future with Anasta and Mini (most likely) moving on soon so I don't know where people think we'll pull the money from in the cap to re-sign them if we sign SBW. I don't know where people think we'll be able to pull money from in the cap to keep our players who come up from the NYC as their value sky rockets.
All I know is that a lot of the people who want SBW to sign will be the same people who criticise the club when we lose someone like JWH, Tasi or a young Kane Evans.
I'll sit through a poor season like this and happily support and defend the club, so long as it stays true to its policy or even a philosophy if you will of developing young kids from within the club. I really hope they turn down the temptation of a quick fix in SBW.
