    So the bench could be

    14. Hutch
    15. Watson
    16 .E. Butcher
    17. May or Baker

Sitili Tupouniua and Billy Smith won't be available until June/July if 12 month ACL recuperation which they tend to favour
I thought Baker has signed with GC?

    I like May.

May has "potential" but so do the other young guns (pigs) coming through e.g. Tuku, Whyte, Va'a brothers and Alex Leapai Jr etc but it wouldn't bother me if we were to lose him.

I've never thought that his heart was for the Roosters, to me, he looks like his heart is set on Penrith in some way, shape or form and he'll be looking for an opportunity to return to the Wild Wild West.

Smith's not an 80 minute player - 50 to 60 or so minutes would be his optimum game time for maximum output/effect.

Collins and JWH are in the starting 13 - Lodge is not contracted for 2023 and unknown if he will be at this stage so hard to include someone in the team or bench who is not contracted for 2023 - Obviously if signed he would be either starting or on the 4 player bench instead of May/Baker.

Watson needs to stay in that running forward role a move which along with the belated switch of Keary and Walker greatly improved the attack in the last 3rd of the season

Which of course means the Hutchinator will be a strong candidate for a bench spot as the second dummy half/utility role in being able to cover the halves/centre and possibly even back row if required.

Cheese struggled to make it to half time vs Raiders. Definitely not an 80 minute player.

Either way, I don't recall Robbo ever playing our hookers for long minutes especially during the regular season.

                B. Smith admitted this year that he was playing 7-8 kilos above his ideal weight so I suspect this would have an affect on his ability to play 80 effectively as a dummy half.

Although it does seem that in the current game most dummy halves don’t play the full 80.

I don’t mind Hutch on the bench. While he’s no Aubo he can cover a few different positions.

Hopefully we stop messing around with Hutch on the bench, and get Tuku, Wong, Va'a or Butcher 2.0 (prefer the first 3) over May on the bench.
May is 'bang average' so you want Tuku in there instead? When has Tuku ever done anything that tells you he is 'above average'?

The "Hutchinator" is a strong candidate for the bears.

Are you sure? Friend was playing close to 80 before he retired & Verrilis was for sure playing 80 when he returned.

I thought the same. With a proper off season training with the NRL team, I think he will do well for us and with SST gone, should be in the 17.

Only for some games after Verrills did his ACL. Even going back to Brian Smith days (with Robbo as assistant) it was always a policy of reducing workload for main hooker.

There were some exceptions for big games when there was a big disparity between playing ability (think Nick Kouparitsas, Freddy Lussick).

Tuku has the intangibles to be a very solid prop. He runs with speed, has a good offload and is a man mountain. Also younger. His issue is that he gets gassed easily in reggies, but that can be fixed. On the flip side, May doesn't have an offload, no late footwork at the line, and doesn't particularly run hard at the line, whilst also being smaller than Tuku. I'd also suggest Va'a but he only recently turned 18. That said he did average 72 metres per game on only about 25 minutes per game in reggies, whilst missing only 1 tackle per game.

Ye I'd prefer we carry an extra forward on the bench instead of Hutchison. If Smith really needs a 10 minute break, Watson or Radley are there. We don't need Hutchison, as it stands, we're really only using 2 of the 3 forwards anyway on the bench, if we have Hutchison, we're basically paying 15 against 17 for 70-75 minutes
