Manly is the employer though which somehow has been lost in all this and it was not an unlawful or unreasonable decision/direction on their part as the employer for players to wear that jumper - yes it could be argued that consulting the players would have been a good idea but in the end the law is with the employer when they make such decisions in their capacity as the employer.
We had this in the Department I work in when they brought in the mandatory double vaccinations requirements for all employees ( Public Health Order and Secretary's discretion) - Folk had their employment terminated for refusing to be doubled vaxed citing religious beliefs for not doing so.
The NSWIRC although understanding and sympathetic to their religious belief's ruled in the employers favour in these unfair dismissal cases on the basis that it was a lawful and reasonable decision/direction by the employer that employees be double vaxed.
How many employers consult with employees on anything and everything before they make any decisions though? - In the Public Sector which is far more unionised than the private sector there is considerable consultation with the various unions but in the end the employer will make the final decision or the NSWIRC will arbitrate in relation to disputes where conciliation has failed.
It has to be noted though that Penrith has a large contingent of Polynesian background players and Penrith often wears a Pink jumper a colour that was and I assume still is associated with LGBTQIA community - They don't boycott games.
Even though there are federal and state laws you can see by some of the posts on here on this topic there are still folk who have prejudices against the LGBTQIA community including the 7 Manly players one has to say.
Who was the player that was refusing to play on Sundays due to their religious beliefs ?
Your employer pays you for your labour at work.....Rugby League players are paid to run hard, tackle & score tries.....Garbo's are paid to collect your rubbish....mechanic's are paid to fix cars...etc.
It's not lawful & fair & reasonable to push & force political views & issues on people who just want to do their job they are paid for.
Your employer doesn't have the right to enforce their views on your personal morals.

Not sure what workplace you work in but I would strongly doubt that they would allow you to disregard any of the workplace policies just because they differ from your own personal views though
A lot of these are based on existing legislation either at the Federal or State/territory level which are LAW.
The NRL has a diversity and inclusion policy aimed at aimed at eliminating homophobia and other forms of discrimination in Rugby League for instance
mmm boycott a game citing cultural and religious reasons and then later on support a former team mate convicted of stabbing a church leader.
I would strongly doubt many on here would be supporting 7 Roosters players boycotting a game at an important stage of the season.

I would strongly hope our club would do things much differently to Manly & not spring this on our players & respect their views & values & not presume we all are in unison without proper consultation.
There's a reason when players sign contracts or the average Joe goes for a job interview that questions about Sex, Religion & Politics aren't asked. They are personal views & nobody else's business.
To avoid any fallout & embarrassment how about leaving Politics out of sport.

Exactly, look at the Australian cricket captain talking against one of the major sponsors, yet he is happy to accept the million odd dollars he gets from them, the Australian net ballers have also shot themselves by speaking out.
you were born to play sport, not be a woke spokesperson or a gimmick for a club to pretend they are high and mighty.

You can’t FORCE someone to accept or condone your lifestyle no matter how much you bleat and bitch in parliament or the media about being accepted.
The fact that the word “community” is bandied about in reference to this mob, denotes exclusion from the general populace from the get go.
Perhaps if they didn’t continually bang on (look at me look at me, I’m important) - about being queer, lesbian, trans or whatever the frack they profess to be -maybe there wouldn’t be so much push back against them.
People don’t like being TOLD what they HAVE to believe or accept. That goes for the pentecostal bible bashers also.
We don’t need a pride round, the same as we don’t need a born again Christian round, a vegan round or a people who like to watch the European swallow migrate round.
Not hard to see how this PC, woke BS had such a profound effect on the fortunes of one club….I’d hate to see that happen to our beloved Roosters.
I would never condone violence against ANYONE - in the case of the manly 7, they had every right not to wear that jersey….
Salvo, wasn’t the penriff pink jersey originally used for breast cancer awareness or anti-violence against women?

Once an organisation decides to promote specific values, beliefs, political ideologies or social causes then they have every right to employ people who can support these efforts. You can expect harsh treatment if you're an employee of the Liberal Party and you wear a Karl Marx t-shirt to work. You won't be popular if your employer supports Black Lives Matter if you wear a Klansman's hood. You'll be expected to wear an NRL team's Indigenous jersey, even if you're a member of One Nation. And, of course, religious organisations even require you to profess your belief in imaginary people in the sky.
The NRL and individual clubs need to make their expectations clear: "We stand for and promote X, Y and Z and if you are to work here you'll need to be OK with that." Manly screwed up because they failed to communicate these expectations.
