I have afeeling Laurie Daleyw as the 1st to use this analogy when referring to Storms 1 6 7 and 9

              Minichiello - Honestly past it.
Anasta - Never even near it
Pearce - tries his guts out but can't get near it.
Friend - Whatever was in him rustled as it left.

We're rectifying part of the trouble when Zed leaves and Maloney comes. And splitting the hooker role between friend and Mitch has potential but that leaves the fullback position. If Oldfield is going cheap then we should pick him up, he has first grade experience and is not going to get a guernsey at Manly if they run out of money.

He's 22, on about 200,000 a year (I've asked around) and is defensively sound and gets involved when put in a position to. And, what's the line, he knows his way to the try line.

Why go for Snake when a perfectly good option is there.

Just like with the Phantom Punch, train Taka or Cordy to play the role that toad has done.

Yes terrific idea John Lets sign up a player to play fuullback who does not actually play fullback at the club he is currently playing with

But has done on numerous occasions in the unders Andy.

I pay attention to all facets of the game.

He's played at fullback and can be retrained at fullback...like Mini did, and Ben Barba (who if I remember correctly was a 5/8th in his beginnings at the Dogs.) The only specialist fullbacks around these days are Billy Slater, Matt Bowen and maybe one or two other ones who I can't think of. Reece Robinson is a winger subbing for Canberra, Lachlan Coote has played in the halves, and Hayne is a 5/8th originally to name several non-fullbacks.

It's not impossible for Oldfield to become a bloody good fullback for the Roosters.

I would welcome him as a finishing winger to replace Perrett.

But we need much more class at fullback than what Oldfield offers.

I would have him as a winger too. But he can sub as a fullback.

It's hardly crap, you wont win a premiership without a good spine.

What's crap is the obsession with creative players, a good organsier is just as important if not more so. A well balanced spine is the key.

Which would still leave us needing to find a fullback when Mini leaves

Fair point about Barba though That said Barba was abolutely diabolical in defence in his early days at Fullback I watched a few games bac in 08 where he was plain embarrassing in defence He was initially put there to shield him from defending in the attacking line If oldfield was 1/2 as diabolical in defence at the back as Barba was to start He would be torn to shreds on here by all and sundry

Signing a player who can sub as fullback to play fullback fulltime IMO would not be a good idea John

I accept that. The club should sign him as a winger.
