  • Roosters to field NSW Cup team in 2023

Hi everyone, long time no post but hope everyone is well!

Saw this in an email from the bears this afternoon:

”As we head into our final year of our five-year contract with the Sydney Roosters, we have been notified that the Roosters will be fielding their own team in the 2023 Knock On Effect NSW Cup competition. We maintain our strong relationship with our partner club and the Roosters have confirmed they will continue to honour their contract with the Bears, in regard to NRL player movement between the two clubs. The Bears will use this period to bolster our own contracted playing roster and enhance our player development programs and pathways.”

So next year Roosters NRL contracted depth to still play for the bears, Roosters to field their own seperate team for their Flegg/SG ball/Sydney shield graduates (as well as players from other connections such as Silktails, Ipswich, Central Coast?)

Guessing these Roosters reserve games will also play before the NRL squad at Allianz stadium

Also guessing from 2024 roosters nrl reserves may play for Roosters NSW cup unless this relationship is renewed - bears looking to become more independent as they get prepared to bid for the 18th nrl spot

If the Roosters are fielding their own NSW Cup team then those Roosters NRL Contracted players not playing NRL for the Roosters will be playing for the Roosters NSW Cup side and not North Sydney Bears I would assume.

The North Sydney Bears will need to sign a full squad of players for their NSW Cup side.

The Roosters may lend players to the Bears from say their Jersey Flegg/Sydney Shield Squads from time to time but I assume not NRL contacted players.

I don't think you could be a contracted NRL player and play reggies for a side which isn't your clubs reggies side?.

Where does that leave Jason Taylor?- He will still be coaching North Sydney Bears in 2023.

Who will be the coach and assistant coaches of the Sydney Roosters NSW Cup side in 2023 I wonder?

The pathway for Male Roosters players will thus be via the Sydney Roosters and Central Coast Roosters Junior reps - Sydney Shield - NSW Cup - NRL

For Female Roosters players - Under 19's Tarsha Gale Cup - NSW Women's Premiership(Central Coast Roosters) - NRLW - Talk of expanding the under 17's Females Lisa Fiola Cup into a full junior rep comp in the near future

          Thanks for that info NorthChook.
I could never work out why a rich club like the Roosters didn’t have a reserve team in the NSW Cup.
          Good luck with your Bears.

Mate NorthChook has just given us a big heads up about the Roosters having a team in the NSW Cup. That was the point not who’s going to play where & for who. It had nothing to do with female football either.

i can see this as the lead up for the bears move to WA for the next NRL team. odd numbers dont work when setting out a draw. 18th team Western Bears
              1911 1912 1913 1923 1935 1936 1937 1940 1945 1974 1975 2002 2013 2018 2019 2020

This is really interesting. Means more positions for Roosters contracted players. With the Central Coast and Sydney Roosters HM & SG Ball sides should be no shortage of players.

I understand this will work similar to the Dogs/Mounties partnership this year...where the Dogs played majority of their top 30 in their own feeder team.

Got to laugh at the Dino couple Mickie and Miso Dig a hole old blue shirt the last of the ever dwindling number of holdouts from a bygone era thankfully long gone.

I suppose they can take turns at being President and Vice President of their chapter of the BOF Mens Club being the last two members - Be still moaning about how Women were allowed into the Public Bar or in all walks of life no doubt

                          What a pair

So who will be the coach?

I hope its not Taylor, we need to move on from that.

Perhaps a dual coaching gig of Cords and Jake?
