What is the point of respecting and being in awe of your opponant????

treat them for what they are, an opponant who would do every thing in their power to knock your head off at the first ooptunity.

Respect them after the game with a beer or cordial.

Good on you JWH, smash any bum that stands in your way.

Great post. Forget others, lets restore some pride in the RWB.

I'm all for restoring pride in the RW&B, but I guess I'd go about it a slightly different way than JWH. Yes, be aggressive, play with passion, hate your opponent and smash your opponent but do it without letting comments like "pup" get under your skin and then mouthing off as a result.

Problem is lack of respect for your elders on the field can sometimes equate to lack of respect for authority off it.

That's where JWH needs to be monitored. The last thing the Roosters need is another arrogant young shit who believes that because he has footballing talent, he rules the world.

He does seem to have a different persona off the field though.. he went to Rwanda on a Christian mission after the 2008 season finished and said had he not been selected for NZ, he would have gone back there again this year.

exactly right. He is an animal in the field but would be one of the last people id expect to be getting into strife off field. his attitude toward footy, training etc is exemplar - he is the complete player - aggression, skill power and all the natural talent and size in the world melded together with good leadership qualities and a good upbringing. His comments are a little unneccessary imo - let the footy do the talking however I dont think thats something to really worry too much about imo. he is still only a young buck and he will learn in time as he matures as a footballer and individual

                Put that towards his upbringing.

There was an article i think in big league talking about his up bringing and family.

His dad served with nato on peace keeping missions, his family has a military backgroup so dicipline and commitment would have been paramount in his upbringing, as well as respect for Authority.

We have an on field monster and an off field champion on our hands !!!
