Also FWIW Rugby was called football before soccer was, true story. It was called rugby football. Soccer was originally named “association football” because of this and still is regarded as this.
Football is a term used by many sports from different countries ie USA has American football, Some parts of Ireland call it soccer as well as they have Gaelic football. The list goes.
