  • Top 30 spots and who teams may target

From Fox Sports...can't vouch for accuracy. Did same blurb on each club.

    ROOSTERS

Top 30 spots left to fill: Five

2023 Squad: Renouf Atoni (2023), Fletcher Baker (2023), Egan Butcher (2023), Nat Butcher (2024), Lindsay Collins (2026), Angus Crichton (2024), Drew Hutchison (2023), Luke Keary (2024), Joseph Manu (2024), Terrell May (2023), Paul Momirovski (2024), Jaxson Paulo (2024), Victor Radley (2023), Billy Smith (2023), Brandon Smith (2024 PO 2025), Sandon Smith (2024), Joseph Suaalii (2023, PO 2024), James Tedesco (2024), Daniel Tupou (2023), Sitili Tupouniua (2024), Jake Turpin (2023), Jared Waerea-Hargreaves (2023), Sam Walker (2023), Connor Watson (2023), Naufahu Whyte (2024)

    Development players: N/A

Who they could target: The Roosters have plenty of work to do to finalise five top 30 spots and Matt Lodge will be a priority if they can strike a deal that suits both parties within the salary cap. If they can’t retain Lodge, the Roosters could go in for Marty Taupau, as they have lost a lot of experience in their pack in recent years. The club have a number of young guns that need upgrades led by Sam Walker and Joseph Suaalii, as well as veterans looking for extensions, so their priority will be on promoting from within and keeping their stars together

Taupau for Lodge is not a good outcome.
    It's cool....................I know it won't happen.

Noticed on the Roosters team page a few of our new addittions are included, including Robert Toia the young QLD SOO centre, so he takes another spot in the 30.

I thought maybe Wong may also be added to the list?

I don't like that we have 2 out with ACL recovery , so our top 30 is actally limited to 28 if the others are all fit.
          I hope we sign Lodge.

It still lists our departed players. Probably a young kid just started doing the updates...

Roosters NRL squad is 26 players - add Siua Wong and if Lodge signs 27 players

Robert Toia and Xavier Va'a - Development Contracts

Pretty hilarious that they cobbled that one together IMO. Accurate that he's yet to sign, but I doubt Robbo/Nick are sitting back with a Dannemann thinking 'hrrrrmmm... it's a tough one... Lodge or Taupau for 2023?'

He tore his ACL late in the season playing for Nudgee. Not gonna play any rugby in 2023

He suffered the knee injury playing GPS Rugby - August 2 or so - so will be back during the May to August Period in 2023 depending on time out - usually looking at 9 to 12 months for ACL's

Signed to a 4 year deal at the end of 2019 which expires in 2023 and by the sounds of it has been elevated to a development contract. The Roosters site includes both Top 30 and Development contracted players in the teams area of the club site and don't differentiate between the two.

I read some reports from those that follow GPS Rugby that they were surprised about his size -has put on a fair bit of weight/muscle.

Obviously bulking up will have an affect on your ligaments and tendons

Bulking causes enormous strain on bone-muscle connectors. Adding excess body mass will force unhealthy strain on ligaments and tendons. It's important to understand that these crucial connectors do not grow, as body composition becomes manipulated during the bulking process. As muscle fibers become denser over a short period of time, ligaments and tendons become more vulnerable to tearing free of bones and muscles due to stress impact. These types of injuries are excruciatingly painful and often require surgery.
