  • Lodge signs T&T deal

Apparently Matt Lodge has signed a $1000 a week Train & Trial contract to stay with the Roosters until the salary cap has been agreed and they can work out a proper contract. The deal can’t be registered, but Lodge has said he intends to stay and this interim agreement will last until the NRL ends this farce and finalises next year’s funding.

Great news and great redemption story. Hope he can turn his life around for good and kick on in the front row. God knows we need strength in that area.

Big rough, tough, dirty carnt who has history, exactly what is needed at the Chooks.
How insane would it be from the Roosters to not re-sign him.

Good news. Signing a T&T deal shows commitment.

They certainly need to get a deal done for both the NRL and NRLW as all NRLW players are in limbo until the CBA is finalised - Clubs can't sign players and players can't sign contracts until they know what the cap is/ commencing date and length of season etc.

NRL players at least can sign train and trial contracts and work out contracts later on

Interesting to read that in the new CBA the RLPA want a payment system for finals appearances which isn't included under the cap - starting from $4000 per player for week 1 final appearances and increasing each week to $16,000 per player for a GF appearance - Players could earn up to $36,000 extra under such a system

I’d imagine this would reward the stronger teams. Potentially weaken the teams who are unable to attract big name players.

                Good.

At some point the game has to stop handicapping well run clubs so basketcase clubs have a tiny window of hope

Absolute joke that the cap hasn't been set yet.

November 1st is the start of the yearly payment cycle and we are halfway through November already.

There’s a chance we could have player strikes before the season at this rate. Pretty embarrassing for a ‘professional’ league

If PVL had pursued this instead of flexing to state Governments about who’s getting GF it might have been landed by now. It’s ludicrous!
