  • Justin Carney: Winger, Centre, Prop?

During the off season, i showed one of my mates a picture of j carney doing weight runs.
Having never seen him before, my mate asked if he was a prop, and his eyes nearly popped out of his head when i told him he was a winger.
Would you ever consider seeing carney pack a scrum with the big number 10 on his back?
    i know i wouldnt.

I don't care what number he wears, I just wish he wasn't wearing a Roosters jersey, are the wingers/centre's going that bad for Newtown that they can't get a run in front of this imposter??

Not actually sure what he's done wrong yet this season?

Everyone criticises him but I thought he had another solid game against the Warriors.

For the first time he looked a bit agile and threatening to break the line, which he did so much in his breakout years for Canberra.. Hopefully he still has it in him.

                  Ditto.
He's actually very solid with his work. Gives his all every time, from what I have seen.
Future most definitely lies in the forwards because he isn't tall enough for the high balls on the wing.
If he can maintain his speed he should be ok in the forwards.

He hits it up hard and regularly pokes his nose through the line, is not scared to take on bigger blokes in defence and I'm yet to see any opposition try and bomb him, which I thought would have been a given due to his lack of perpendicular to the horizontal?

                    Good value atm.

                    Chook.

What was the game that we had a a couple of our guys covering for him with the bomb?. First or second game of this year? Moved in to help when it looked like raining bombs to him?

He isn't that bad just short, after watching the Jets game on fox last night he is going better than Tagive.

I just checked his stats on the NRL site and he compares favorably to the averages this season. He's also played in 3 wins this season from 4 games, he missed the Melba trouncing.

The pleasing thing is he's only made 2 errors in the 4 games he's played. Both those were against The Faiders.

Errors were his weak point last season, his handling shocking at times, but it seems the eye surgery he had in the off season has helped that at least.

For the life of me I can't see what he's done wrong, some of you act like he hit on your boyfriends or something. Considering he's outside BJ and Bwaiff I think he's traveling very well.

All this talk about a winger as if it's going to magically transform our season if we replace him, some of youse have NFI really.

Tagavie, Bosden and Moga, never have I witnesses such hysteria and tantys over lower graders who by the admission of those who have actually watched them play, their forms been patchy at best. Moga may be the exception there but he's a baby yet to debut whose been hit by injury.

What is it with some of you blokes???

Its a long season. We will get injuries and rep interruptions, these blokes will get a go if they hold their form in the lower grades. At 3 wins from 5 games making mass changes now would be mental. Dang.

                          The FlogPen .

                          You know it makes sense.

How does he rate on those stats for try's scored??

That is a pretty important stat for a winger..

I agree Edward Scissorhands has been much improved this year..Except for when he channelled "The Code" the other week,& the people in row 20 needed helmets..

His defence has been very good,& he runs the ball hard & makes a dent in the line..

But he never seems to break it..

And a try or 2 would be lovely..Even if he plays outside Bwaiff..

He gets a pass mark off me,but i'd love to see some of the "YouTube Carney"..

Carney is typical of the 'athlete footballer'. As a junior he was always very strong (surprisingly, he was built like that as an 18yo, but hadn't set foot in the gym!), very quick and very agile. He started as a lock and played NSWCHS and Country 18's in that spot. He got picked up by Canberra who tried to transform into a hooker but he lacked the skill and smarts to play there. They then moved him into the centres in 20's and he started to destroy teams, scored an amazing amount of tries in a short space of time, before being called up on the wing in the NRL.

I don't think he's as bad as everybody makes out. I think he's struggled for confidence and consistency since suffering a badly broken leg but I'm hopeful he will continue to improve. In regards to his try scoring record, could it be any worse than Perretts?
