carney has been impressive. i am getting the sense that he is starting to regain fitness and confidence in his broken leg and is starting to show some of the form that made us sign him 2 years ago. In a way I get the sense that if we are intelligent as a club we will choose between perrett and carney in terms of resigning. I get the sense that perrett is ahead in that race and rightfully so but i have said it since we signed carney; he has the same capacity for work out of dummy half than perrett but imo is a better attacking player. his defence is excellent and he is very strong in contact and can hit a hole. with moga still seemingly a few weeks off, id love to see leilua moved onto the bench as a replacement for FPN allowing tagive to come in onto the wing outside carney. his speed, height and althleticism could prove the perfect foil for carney with Taka doing his thing in 11. id also love to see bosden get a run in the not too distant future although it is difficult for him to get a gig even with FPN injured particularly if they go for tagive or mose. he has a lot to offer

Our left side starts and ends with Bwaiffs shitness.
I'd love to see Mortein given the role of controlling that side of the field. Certainly Bwaiff deserves demotion, on his form alone.
I feel we will have to wait till next season to see what Baloney can do with that side of the field.
Anyway, enough Anasta bashing; actually no, one more thing.
If memory serves me correctly the the great Fitzgibbon not has the captaincy removed from him inhis last year?
There should be a bit of goose and gander. Make MAbbs capt now.

I've been a big critic of Carney but he had a good game last night. Moving BJ to the bench and Tagive out wide would be a very, very sensible option. Smith won't do it, but he should.
I understand the criticism of Leilua on here given his error rate. Still, Anasta is often responsible for some of those, giving him hospitable passes, floating balls a foot above players' heads, at their knees etc. For his defensive errors, he does have to worry about protecting Carney in the air, and swapping positions in defence and attack, a fair ask for a twenty year old.
On the positive side, Leilua has the best fend of anyone in our team. Players can't deal with it, he breaks away from the first tackler most of the time. He actually has good footwork for a guy of his size, once he beats that first man he usually steps away from a couple more. He has a very good offload both in and around contact - unfortunately, we never seem to give him any support players to hit holes.
Reading and writing all the above, he is a born but unfortunately-not-bred backrower getting stuck out on the wing. Perhaps it was smart to ease him into first grade, I don't know. But certainly at this point it is stunting his development. He needs to be brought closer to the action. It should have been done over the off season, but Smith... must have forgotten. I still think it can be done now, with FPN out.
We should definitely not let this kid go. He is not a Sa, he has more talent than that bloke in my opinion and more desire to use it. Keep him, and let him rumble in the engine room rather than tread water out on the edges.

From memory Bwaiff got handed the gig late in 08 which co-incided with us losing most of our last 7 or so games. Then in 09, even though Bwaiff copped an injury, he led us to wood. In fact it would be interesting to see our win/loss rate with Bwaiff as our head steamer.
The FlogPen .
You know it makes sense.

Roz,
I agree with everything you have said, especially regarding Tagive and Bosden.

He puts in his all every week and was surprisingly fast vs the Titans.
He can make good tackles, but can also miss easy ones.
Wing is definitely not his position. He was listed as a Centre/2ndRow at the raiders.
Shift him to the centres or as a backrow sub and he might be decent.
The skill isn't there but the attitude is.

He was adequate at best..
Expectations are so low for him that performances like the Titans game get him wraps..
Was left lacking a few times and against a better side we would have paid dearly.
BUT he isn't the only one who is a bit ordinary at the mo.
ok, John....cut to "Things Can Only Get Better"
