  • Boyd Cordner

    There is a really great article on Boyd in this weeks Rugby League Week, where it covers all of the adversity he has faced in losing his Mum to cancer and all of his injuries, but the part I liked best is as follows;

Even the nickname "Manchild" handed to him by Roosters team-mates, speaks of Boyd's beyond-his-years maturity - a trait developed through a childhood that was accelerated by family tradgedy.

Roosters assistant coach Craig Fitzgibbon said of Cordner recently "The thing I see with Boyd is whenever there is a bit of a lackadaisical attitude at training or the session seems to be going down that path, he's the one that snaps it back into gear.....and he's only 19".

And that's why many regard Cordner as a future club captain.

But he knows that is a long way off. He also knows that he wants to be a Rooster for life. "When I come off contract at the end of next year I'll only be 21" Cordner says.

I'd love to be like Ricko and Mini who played their whole careers at the club and are Roosters legends.

"I guess it's not traditional in this day and age, but the club have really stuck by me to allow me to get to where I am and I'd love to stick by the club....to stay here my whole career".

I'm willing to give him at least another 2 years to develop, the kid is only 19. He's been descibed as a once in a generation player by some knowledgable people and I've liked what I've seen so far. Anyone remember a decision and a kick in game one, in full light, under immense pressure, game in the balance, seconds left...ring a bell?

          Chook.

The thing i like about Cordner is the fact he doesn't dwell on mistakes,& isn't afraid to back himself..

He was having an arse of a game against lol@5(c)uFF$..Dropped balls, poor reads in defence & was losing the physical battle against their pack..

But when he was given the pill with the game on the line he didn't go into his shell & try the percentage play..

The kid rolled the dice..He could've looked to shovel the pill onto a faster player..But he put the ball on the toe..

He saw the opportunity & had full faith in his ability to pull it off..To win the game..

That is a trait only the good ones have..

I've been hearing the "Cordner Hype" for a few years..

Now i'm starting to see the promise..

He needs to be hitting holes on the edges a bit more.

He can play footy unlike a lot of other robots.

I love the kid and he is only 19 years of age. He has so much more muscle to add and time to really grow into his body to be a real dominate edge runner. I like what i see, i think him coming off the bench is the best way to bring him through first grade but given more then 20 minutes at the end of the game.

He was just on the footy show talking about his junior club being vandalized. Apparently the team has signed a jersey to raise money for it.

Heard he played 2 years above throughout his junior career. He's a future Australian player (if he can stay on the field) and hopefully a Rooster for life.
