  • Watson on Bloke in a Bar

I watched half of this one last night and it was pretty good... https://youtu.be/fJZqdPUFgLk

Didn't realise his history with Newcastle, Central Coast and Knox. Explains a bit of the context about his debut too. I saw it as a weird 'eff you' to Hastings, but in context it was all about Watson working through injuries & finding form.

Notably he's keen to win a premiership, which excites me as I assumed the signing of Turpin meant he mighta been moving on. Hope he's our utility for 2023 and carves up...

I can’t split him and Turpin. Not a massive fan of both but at least Watto has some RWB already in his blood.

The Bloke in the Bar needs elocution lessons.

I sorta like them just putting it all out there as it's footy players talking about footy (though I still don't quite know why Bloke in a Bar played 1st grade... guess all part of the Drongos' ambitious plan to lure soccer players over to League). Hearing Mason have a ramble on YKTR is also fun.

End of the day I was never a pro footy player so respect that I can't see what these guys do when they watch a game of footy (also I'm not over in Bali getting tats and snorting coke...etc with them). Footy players speak like footy players and I don't mind that.

Watson and Turpin are not even in direct competition for a spot. Watson was coming on and playing as a middle at the back end of last season and at times was actually part of the front row rotation. Robbo uses his speed and footwork to try and work over the big forwards. I can't see any reason to think that this will change. He may play 9 but only because of injuries

            100% this!

We need to get out of our heads that Watson is a hooker utility, he’s a lock utility who can play on an edge and at a pinch hook the scrum if required.

Im a big fan of Watson if we use him on the field correctly.

Somebody will have to sub BSmith for 30min a game, hope we don’t carry Watson and Turpin/hutch on the bench.

The Hutchinator will battle it out with Turpin for the dummy half bench spot - Watson will continue with his running forward role

Connor Watson is your 350 to 450k player who was brought to the club to play off the bench.
He’s good but nothing more than that & I think he will be let go after his current contract is over unless he takes a pay cut.

                      Agree totally.

He isn't big, but he is very strong for his size. More than capable of doing a good job as a middle forward either side of halftime.

I'd actually prefer him to fill in anywhere else in the pack, or even at the 3/4 line rather than at hooker.

He has lots of zip. But his service is sub - par and kicking game non existent. Not good for a no.9.

Cheese for 80 and Watson as a zippy middle forward then? Be interesting...

I still think he's undeniably a 'utility' (one who can play in the forwards). He's not a battering ram... he's a 'utility' who can cover lotsa positions on an ad-hoc basis.

Put it another way... I'll be disappointed if our bench includes him and Hutcho/Turpin. Though, I respect this may happen (and did happen in 2022 with some success).

Watson when used correctly is a better version of Reuben Cotter....and I rate Cotter

Unfortunately Watson was only used correctly for about 8 weeks this season...

So what your saying is Robbo didn’t get it right for most of the season with Watson?
There has been no better coach at the Roosters than Robbo but he stuffed up last year playing Keary at halfback & Walker at 5/8 IMO for most of the season.

You question one poster for doubting Robbo yet in the very same comment you mention that Robbo stuffed up?

                              Interesting.
