In case you didn't see this Fox Sports article. Interesting info on Ethan Roberts.

    ROOSTERS

Top 30 spots to fill: 3

    Available development contracts: 3

    DANE AUKAFOLAU (second row)

A well-deserved opportunity for the towering second-rower, who punched out 80 minutes in every game except one this year for NSW Cup side Mounties. Has a good offload and footwork from his history in the centres. The 25-year-old has played 91 NSW Cup games over the last six seasons and is certain to impress Trent Robinson.

    JOSH BEVAN (second row)

The Bilambil Jets junior has been in the Roosters’ system since 2017 after being scouted at a state carnival in Cairns. Bevan trained with the NRL squad in the lead-up to his 2021 SG Ball season and is enjoying another opportunity in the hopes of cementing a spot in one of the club’s two NSW Cup sides.

    JAMES COYNE (fullback/centre)

Joins the Roosters from the Sharks system and before that was with the Dragons, where he was named SG Ball Player of the Year in 2018. Coyne — the son of Dragons great Mark — spent majority of the year with Glebe in Ron Massey Cup but did get two games with the Newtown Jets.

    KURT DE LUIS (prop)

An absolute workhorse and one of the best defenders in NSW Cup this year, Kurt De Luis is a new face at the Roosters after spending the last couple of seasons with Manly. The 26-year-old often got through 80 minutes at prop in Cup and make upwards of 30 tackles with rarely a miss. The Perth-born prop plays with his heart on his sleeve and can always be heard encouraging his teammates from the grandstand.

    WILLIAM FAKATOUMAFI (fullback/centre)

The 21-year-old New Zealand product has been plucked from the Panthers’ system after a solid season in Jersey Flegg and a NSW Cup debut in the centres. Prior to joining the Panthers he was at Warriors.

    KYRON FEKITOA (centre)

A member of the Roosters’ SG Ball team that made this year’s grand final that moved into the Jersey Flegg side later in the season.

    GUY HAMILTON (halfback)

The 27-year-old joins the Roosters after a breakout season with Titans feeder side, Burleigh Bears where he scored six tries and set up 28 in 22 games to be named Queensland Cup’s Halfback of the Year. The Brisbane product, who played under 20s with the Bulldogs, has 113 games worth of reserve grade experience.

    TUI KATOA (wing)

After overcoming a brain aneurysm, staph infection and heart murmur in 2021, former Bulldog Tui Katoa got back on the field this year with Mounties in NSW Cup. The 23-year-old played 15 games but after his Top 30 deal with the Bulldogs expired is chasing an opportunity with the Roosters. Katoa is the brother of Sharks winger Sione and is a former NSW under 20s representative.

    ETHAN KING (fullback/wing)

At 20-years old Ethan King is still eligible for Jersey Flegg but played 11 NSW Cup games this year — six at fullback and five on the wing. He’s still a couple of years off playing first grade but with the Roosters entering two teams into NSW Cup next season he will cement a spot from Round 1 after gaining extra experience over the summer.

    TYLER MORIARTY (hooker)

The young hooker had a season to remember. He played SG Ball, Jersey Flegg and even got a taste of NSW Cup too. Moriarty — a Central Coast product — was also picked for NSW in the under 19s Origin.

    JUNIOR PAUGA (centre)

A new face after spending the last couple of years at the Tigers. Pauga, 26, has had to overcome a horror run of injuries in his career including a broken femur and ACL and MCL ruptures. He played under 20s with the Warriors before joining Wynnum Manly in Queensland Cup and then signing with the Tigers mid-2021. Got an NRL debut not long after and added two more games to his tally. Will provide the Roosters some much-needed outside back depth.

    ETHAN ROBERTS (second row)

He might still be 17-years old but Ethan Roberts is already in demand. The Rabbitohs chased him and even tried to woo him with a guaranteed Top 30 spot, but he knocked them back to stay loyal to the Roosters. The Paddington product was the Roosters’ Harold Matthews Player of the Year and selected in an extended Junior Blues squad last month.

    JORDAN SWANN (centre)

This will be Jordan Swann’s second taste of an NRL pre-season having trained with the top squad last summer too. He spent most of the year in Jersey Flegg but did get a NSW Cup debut in Round 8. Swann excelled in both rugby league and rugby union as a teenager and first joined the Roosters’ system as a 15-year-old in their Harold Matthews team.

Katoa's an interesting one so long as there's no ongoing health/welfare concerns.

Glad he survived as I remember a colleague in his early 20's (~12 years ago) had an aneurism outta nowhere and that was the end of him.

      No mention of Zac Fittler.
Before you say he’s only in Harold Mathews but so was Ethan Robert’s.

The Roosters extended Squad players Kurt De Luis / Guy Hamilton / Dane Aukafolau / William Fakatoumafi / Junior Pauga have all signed to play NSW Cup with the Norths Sydney Bears.

Norths are adamant they will be welcoming back Sydney Roosters NRL players each week to play NSW Cup for them - which players these are is to be determined prior to season kickoff in NSW Cup.

Apparently the Roosters are still struggling to sign players for their NSW Cup squad and as a result have not finalised their Jersey Flegg Squad for 2023 either.

It was reported that Ethan Roberts signed a senior contract with the Sydney Roosters although it is not mentioned anywhere which one- i.e full NRL Contract or Development Contract

Tyler Moriarty maybe the reason Jake Turpin was only signed for one year as he is highly rated at the Roosters as is his Central Coast compatriot Sandon Smith

Xavier Va'a wasn't mentioned in the article but he is another one highly rated at the Roosters - also in the Roosters Extended Squad - Like Tyler Moriaty Xavier also played SG Ball/ Jersey Flegg and NSW Cup in 2022

These are some of the players in the Roosters extended Squad - Zac isn't in this squad. - Ethan is and will be playing SG Ball to start with in 2023.

I will be interested to see how Zac goes plus another player in Lachlan Dooner - both will be playing Harold Matthews Cup again in 2023.

Elie El-Zakhem is another one on train & trial, prop forward who played for Lebanon in the WC and recently been at the Eels

Anyone know where Thomas Deakin went? he looked the goods but we certainly have enough hookers currently

For me Guy Hamilton is a strange one. QLD half- back of the year is a good achievement but why come to the Roosters when we have Walker and back -up in Sandon Smith. I can’t see any path to our FG team ??

SST (who was originally a half FWIW) did a Bloke in a Bar interview and talked about his reasoning for coming to Easts. In short the Warriors had told him that he wasn't wanted and then later offered him a meagre contract. Easts called and his reasoning was 'if I'm not gonna play 1st grade anyway then at least I'll get good development under Robbo while learning from JWH/SBW'.

My guess is that he'd be thinking 'I'm not playing 1st grade for Brisbane anyway so might as well learn from Robbo / Cronk / Keary / Walker...etc as that's the best development opportunity'. If I were a young half, I don't think I could turn down the opportunity to work with Robbo, Cronk, Keary and Walker... they'll work you hard and get you to the next level if you're willing to put in the hours.

Shows how much of a mess Brisbane's in more than anything to me. They're bleeding talented players because they can't get their act together...

He will turn 28 before the season starts next year , not big enough to be anything but a half, but can kick goals and is a playmaker so surely just back up in case of injury to Walker or Keary, but can he even be used if that happens ?

Is this a promotion for Karawalevu?

Just trying to gauge where he's at. My thinking is that (based on stats alone - never seen him play) he's still learning the game but showed some of his attacking prowess in a few Bears games last year.

Is he a realistic opportunity to play some 1st grade in the coming years or more of an experiment?

Yes it's a promotion for Vuate Karawalevu as previously he was on an extended bench contract of sorts

He had a union background in Fiji and minimal if any league experience so still learning the ropes as they say.

This season will see if he is up to NRL level as he is biggish unit at 193 cm and 100 odd kg's - Will be playing NSW Cup solely I assume

Something is going on with the Kaiviti Silktails though as 6 of their players will be playing for the Ipswich Jets in the QLD Cup whom the Sydney Roosters formed a pathway partnership with.

The Kaiviti Silktails Ron Massey Cup side will be an additional feeder side for both Norths and Sydney Roosters NSW Cup sides.

Norths have Hills District Bulls as a feeder club and Sydney Roosters have Glebe Dirty Reds as their feeder club - both of whom field sides in the Sydney Shield and Ron Massey Cup comps.

If something happened to Keary or Walker ( heaven forbid), I believe that Manu would be next in line to fill in …
