I watched an interview on fox with Brandon Smith a while back where it talks about his upbringing, his love for the game and what he had to do to make it in the NRL. He had a pretty tough life as a young guy, used to have catch a bus to thet the ferry to the mainland from the little island he lived on, then walk a few kms to catch another bus to get to training. He then hoped he could get a lift from his coach back to the ferry terminal after training to catch the 7pm ferry otherwise he had to wait till 8.30pm and not get home before 10pm. Pretty much a 5 hour round trip for training. He ackonwledged his parents were strict and when he moved to North Queensland he was left to his own devices and got up to plenty of mischief which led to his contract being terminated. He was also quick to point out that moving to Sydney will bring its challenges with him being far more recognisable up here. All in all it was an interesting story
