  • Gameday experience (lack of)

When i attend games I generally have my Wife and 7 year old Daughter with me who love the football, we are all gold members. I've always thought the gameday experience when attending Easts games is pretty pathetic and wouldn't cost much to improve for families with kids

Last weekend i watched Sydney FC play at home as my Wife and Daughter are mad for them also, myself not so much. Sydney FC had music outside the ground, jumping castles, competitions, face painting etc. None of this would break the bank and in my personal opinion adds to the gameday experience massively, especially for families.

They also had 'families on the field' after the game once the players had left the playing surface. Once again something small but my Daughter loved kicking the ball around on the field taking shots at goal on Allianz!!! It was a pathetic game which Sydney somehow lost but you should have seen how happy the kids and families were being out in the middle of an amazing stadium.

Just my 2 cents and it's always something that has irked me.

I’m surprised they let people on the field. When I did a stadium tour a couple of weeks ago, we weren’t allowed on the grass only the synthetic edges.

I went to a Swans game around 3 years ago and was amazed at the happenings and entertainment outside the ground on Driver Avenue. Personally I’m there for the footy only but I hear what you are saying.

They had music outside the ground at the new stadium last year. I think the new ground setup will be a lot better setup.

Great post. I hope someone who can make things happen takes notice of what you had to report

Email the club. You never know what might eventuate if enough people ask for it.

I’ve always believe you can’t beat HT entertainment of a greased up piggy and let the kids catch it for a prize. Brings the house down. Lol

all I really care about in 2023 is seeing reserve grade play in our colours

There is only one game at Allianz mostly until the NRLW comp starts as the Sydney Roosters NSW Cup team play only the one game in Round 2 before the NRL side at Allianz.

Maybe if they had the 3 grades playing home games at Allianz like the old days they could put on activities and entertainment outside and inside the stadium.

I figure this would be rather low on their list of priorities if at all.

I remember some of the half time entertainment such as the Elvis Impersonator "Direct from Las Vegas" , folk rolling super large see through plastics balls up and down the field in some sort of relay , 100 metre dash and the 100 metre footy relay for instance

Maybe they can have a game day each home game devoted to celebrating the career of a former Roosters Great - sell the face mask/posters etc plus other activities and a half time career highlights package on the big screen if available or some doco type package as it won't be just modern day players being celebrated.

              Lots to choose from

I remember a game against Wests at Campbelltown in the early 90's where the half time entertainment was a Army Reserve display of a mock battle scenario with rifles , artillery and mortars etc - Naturally blanks but an interesting choice for a half time entertainment.

Since the Sydney Roosters have teamed up with the Glebe Dirty Reds the Sydney Roosters NSW Cup team will play most of their home games at Wentworth Park as a quadruple header - Sydney Roosters Jersey Flegg , Glebe Dirty Reds Ron Massey Cup and Sydney Shield games as the curtain raisers.

The Sydney Roosters Junior Rep Teams - SG Ball , Tarsha Gale Cup and Harold Matthews Cup will split their home games between Morry Breen Oval (Central Coast ) and Henson Park.

The Central Coast Roosters NSW Women's Premiership and Central Coast Roosters Junior Rep Teams ( Laurie Daley Cup , Andrew Johns Cup and Harold Matthews Cup ) will play their home games at Morry Breen Oval (Central Coast).

                      Not happy Jan.
When Abdo took on the top job he and PVL indicated they would review the scheduling of NRL and lower grades as part of the same day game experience like we used to enjoy them.

Do you really think people will turn up though?

I know it's very nostalgic for a lot of us but reserve grade also isn't what it used to be. Highlights, game stats/reports, full game replays and even live streamed games are more accessible than they've ever been.

                          That's besides the point R6.

At present the pre-game entertainment or time spent once you get into the venue is non existent and/or boring as bat shit.

If they want people turning up early to avoid congestion give me an incentive.
If need be schedule the Women's game beforehand like they did last year.
it ain't difficult if they really put effort behind it.

I loved the U20s to get a glimpse of tomorrow's potential superstars.
I vividly recall Val Holmes playing five eight for the Sharks and scoring a pearler against us off a scrum.
Watching Latrell blazing down the touchline in the final minute for a come from behind win.
A rampaging lean Islander called Sitili carving them up out wide.

But the best memory by far was an 18 yo kid called Vic Radley line up a Bulldogs forward they nicknamed The Fridge and smashed him so hard from a drop out that they both lay floored.
That's when I knew we had a rough diamond.
Vic made his debut the following year!

It's 100% the point, if people don't show up then it's not cost effective to open up & staff these massive stadiums.

I agree with all in this thread that outside of the game there's very little going on at an NRL game and it's a big issue with the game day experience, but I'm also not convinced that putting reserve grade on beforehand is the solution. The Holden Cup/Under 20s was great but even then, I remember rocking up to some of those games and there were more staff than fans in the building and I think there was always more excitement around the Holden Cup comp than reserve grade given like you said you're actually getting a look into the future of your club.

Women's game is definitely the bigger draw card at the moment but due to short seasons not an answer for the whole season.

The fridge. I love it. Tell me that hit was reminiscent of the Carroll and the Chief collision that floored both of them.
