Not sure I would say either are poor defenders though

    Out of interest

    Suaalli - 19 games - Suaalii made 82 tackles - 38 missed tackles - Tackle Efficiency - 68.33%

Sitili gets dumped on for his defence - 16 games - Sitili made 427 tackles and missed 45 - Tackle efficiency - 90.46 %

If your noted defenders are missing tackles then there would be a concern - sure defending is part and parcel of the game but these players have other roles other than just defence
Interesting stats, especially comparing S. Crichton to Manu.

It'd be worth noting though that given Sitili is a second rower who makes a lot of tackles early in the set and is involved in multi-man tackles, his amount of tackles will always balloon higher. His 45 missed tackles were likely one-on-one tackles close to the line or against a team making a quick shift through the middle. His contact is fine, his reading of the play is putrid hence why he gets bagged for his defence.

Mate, aren't these "missed tackles" stats that you refer to predominantly counting all tackles engaged/contact being made that wasn't successful on first contact ?

For example, if Manu engages with an attacker but doesn't take the opposition player down on 'initial contact' but does get him eventually (after a few seconds) when he gets a proper hold/grip or with the assistance of another defender engaging (which eventually means it was a successful tackle) does the tackle stat still count as being 'missed' or not ? Are these stats purely based on "one-on-one" tackles or ?

Just trying to understand the difference (if any) or the discrepancies, because I still don't think these tackle efficiency rates/stats highlight the entirety of tackles made as a defender !

For one on one tackles say - If Manu missed the ball carrier and then tackles the ball carrier in a second attempt - It would I assume be recorded as 1 missed tackle and 1 tackle

With Multiple tacklers it's a bit more completed - The first defender in if they stop the ball carrier may be credited with the full tackle - Subsequent defenders maybe credited as 1/2 or 1/3 of a tackle depending on their involvement.

As an example those catch and hold tackles - the first defender may stop the ball carrier - 2nd defender then assists in holding the ball carrier up - third defender then comes in to pin the ball carriers legs - The ball carrier is then put on the ground.

Do you think all 3 should be credited with the full tackle or only on their involvement as i mentioned above - i.e either 1 for the full tackle or 1/2 or 1/3 of a tackle.
