Smith could have got more money going to Dolphins.

Some of our recent great players don’t have loyalty in their bloodlines though, Teddy, Cronk, Latrell,SBW.

RTS did no different to what those guys did by leaving their respective clubs for better opportunities or money, and “sheck” did win a Dally M medal while at the warriors.

loyalty goes both ways too, many would argue that Mitchell Pearce was a loyal rooster until he was blindsided by the signing of Cronk.

sport is a business that presents opportunities, you would be mad not do do what you think is in your own best interests.

This was sent to me from the same source that knew of Cronk coming months before it was publicised :

RTS apparently coming after June if he does not make all blacks
Sualli apparently leaving at end of year and coming back in 2028 when Teddy has finished

Yep I'm pretty sure the cheese could have made more money elsewhere, he wanted to be a dummy half and go to a premiership contender. I think he will be a weapon for us.

            I agree.

Loyalty's a nice story and all but even guys who bleed RWB like JWH (Yawnion + Manly), Toops (Parra), Crichton (Souffs), Keary (Souffs), Walker (Brisbane)...etc have all had decisions to make.

IMO NRL careers are short and the salaries aren't THAT high, so there's a fine line between loyalty and stupidity.

Guys like Cronk, SBW and Freddy all won us premierships. I think that our best teams have always contained a mixture of loyal soldiers and POD players. So long as the players bleed RWB while wearing our jersey, I don't give a fark what career decisions they make.

It's disappointing to lose guys like RTS, Matto and Latrell because they're full of talent and you're gonna see them on the tele scoring meat pies in another jersey for years to come. However if your whole team was full of loyal players, you'd never win a premiership. Even Pemriff are losing 1/2 their team despite being favourites this year 'coz high performers have this thing called ambition.

            ---

BTW - somebody was saying the Cheese is only coming here for the money. I dunno! My understanding is that he coulda earned a lot more elsewhere and that he's here because he gelled with our culture. Further, he was forced out because the Drizz chose Harry Grant as their main man. Haven't seen him play for us yet but IMO he's lost a lot of weight around the gut during the offseason while bulking up in all the right places. I think he's here to play 80 at hooker and be 'that carnt who goes hard'.

Yes he's a clown (I've watched some longish interviews where he talks about a lot of shenanigans he's been involved in). But... he's a massive POD over Verrills. I wouldn't let his cheekiness off-field hide the fact he's a kid from Waiheke Island who travelled ~4 hours a day by ferry to play footy aged ~9-13, went out to Australia by himself aged 14 to go to a footy school and was offered a $$$ 3 year NRL contract from Bellamy after being sacked by the Cowboys' development squad. The guy's an absolute gun who doesn't fark around on the footy field! We'll notice him right away IMO. IMO he's got skills that Jake Friend never had and Friend's a legendary Rooster...

Will see how this develops but I always love the cheeky competitor coz it's a POD in itself. He'll be great against emotional team like Souffs and grubs like NAS coz he'll be giving them lip and putting them off their games the whole time. Shane Warne style... every team needs a good sledger who doesn't take himself too seriously despite being an absolute gun!

If Sualli is leaving he won't come back. And I don't think anyone would expect him to.

RTS is unlikely. He was Captain/Fullback at the Warriors - he isn't going to play centre or wing and have no chance of getting the no.1 jersey.

If he comes back to league he'll be playing fullback. Will likely end up at the Warriors again, or perhaps the Dolphins/Knights/Tits.

If he comes back to league at his age, surely he would be after the $$$ and I think the Dolphins would pay the most for a marque signing but would he honestly do that? He could play in a losing side at home. Wouldn’t need to go north Brisbane for that.

RTS was pretty happy to give up the fullback position at The Warriors when make-up boy moved to fullback.

This 2 million a season business... that would make Sua'ali'i the highest paid rugby player in the world by a significant margin. I wouldn't surprised if this was bullshit. They might offer him a million though and that too would be tempting for the young fella but the Roosters could look to match something like that over the longer term.

I have not seen the s talent come out of him yet in comparison that Latrell had when he played first grade he had 10 fold more talent ..that you have to admit ...what kills me about Suali is he makes breaks and has no idea how to set up his outside men ..and usually stuffs it up too...he is way of target to play fullback at this stage 2 or 3 years at center is what he needs .I would have Manu there ahead of the rest . If Keary goes I would contemplate Teddy at 5/8th but I think the coach will lean to Manu.
