NRL stars Latrell Mitchell and Jack Wighton have been arrested over an alleged incident near a Canberra nightclub in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Mitchell and Wighton, who were out celebrating Wighton’s 30th birthday before returning to NRL All Stars camp in Sydney, are alleged to have been wrestling between themselves in Canberra’s CBD.

A statement provided to the Herald by ACT police confirmed that Mitchell was arrested for resisting arrest once police were called by witnesses.

“About 3.45am today (Sunday, 5 February 2023), ACT Policing responded to reports of a disturbance near a nightclub on Bunda Street in the city,” the police statement read.

“Two men - a 30-year-old from Bywong, NSW and a 25-year-old man from Chifley, NSW - were arrested at the scene.

“The 30-year-old has been charged with fight in a public place and fail to comply with an exclusion direction, while the 25-year-old has been charged with fight in a public place, affray, and resist territory public official. They are expected to face the ACT Magistrates Court at a later date.”

An NRL spokesman confirmed the matter is being investigated by the NRL Integrity Unit.

Hopefully a suspension impending, albeit extremely unlikely as the NRL have their clear cut favourites. If I recall correctly, Radley received a suspension for bringing the game into disrepute when he defended a mate at a Christmas party a few years ago. If they had any semblance of consistency about them, Latrell would not be playing the opening rounds. Put aside the scuffle or friendly tiff between him and Wighton, he resisted arrest. Not sure how that’s not ban worthy. As said though, high chance nothing gets done. Every one of our players get the kitchen sink thrown at them for any misdemeanours, other clubs never get the same treatment.

Forget that the guy has a contract with a club, so needs to behave himself, more importantly, he represents his family. He’s got two young kids. What sort of Father is out at 3am getting wasted and fighting while his family is at home. He’s a real stain this bloke. Was a matter of time.

Watch him cop a two game ban and be back in time for round 3.

Already has....someone commented on social media about "why wouldnt a young indigenous man in a strange place be scared of police arresting him?".

Never mind, with his new gig on Foxtel he’ll do a tell all and come out as the victim. Also, it’s not the first time the numbskulled boofhead Wighton has been arrested whilst on a night out in Canberra.

I agree that trelmilk will be back in time to face the Roosters, assuming he gets any suspension at all. Would enjoy my cynicism being way off the mark.

Realistically, how long of a suspension would people be happy with for both players? Can’t be less than two games after what Radley did.
