They could encourage attacking football by upping the prize money. Easts don't need the cash so if they're getting easily beaten next week, I can't see anyone putting their health on the line.

1985: 1 try vs Parramatta, 1 try vs Manly, 1 try vs Wests, 2 tries vs Souffs
1986: 2 tries vs Illawarra, 1 try vs Balmain, 2 tries vs Norths.

Yep, very strange. I feel like it would have been better to add that $100k to the minor premiership winnings, since everybody has saying that the prize for that is too low.
        EASTS TO WIN!

It's all a very strange mix of trial games and a pre-season comp. The coaches won't be treating them as anything other than trials. The players would be playing attacking football anyway, as they aim to impress, so I guess the stats points is just a way to help separate the teams on the strange points table so the winning team can strangely get half the money of the minor premiers. Strange days, indeed!

If they are going to have a pre-season comp then make it a proper one like in the old days of the craven mild/wills cup as the Roosters won a few of these.

Does the money go to the players or the club?

I would think the club is paid this the same as the Minor Premiership payment as if paid to the players I assume that would charged against the Salary Cap as player payments.

The Players Union wanted Players to be paid additional payments for finals appearances and that these payments are not charged against the salary cap.

Would be thinking the club, who can then choose what to do with it?

                        • i thought sam walker looked likely. like andrew johns he's an eyes up footy player who will sometimes make mistakes but will win more than he loses,

don't support the bonus point for offloads - they're overrated and not especially signifcant v a defensive line that holds its shape - but if we're ahead in the last 5 minutes we should make sure we get out offloads up. i reckon they should give a bonus point for a good defensive effort, maybe a missed tackle count that is at a low percentage
