Toups has been a fantastic servant for the club and I wouldn't begrudge him if he got big money for a last contract elsewhere in the same way Isaac Liu did. The purchasing of the 2 pommy wingers would seem to indicate that is the way the club is heading.

The long-serving player allowance increased to $250k? Why would we get rid of the only two players that qualify?

When your great great great grandchildren are receiving the age pension Daniel Tupou will still be here on the wing. He's going nowhere.

For me Toops is the best Easts winger I’ve seen in my many years of being a supporter - that’s over 50years. Yes I put him way ahead of specialist winger Bill Mullins. Others club greats played various positions including wing but Toops has been solely a winger.

He has come a long way hasn't he? There was a time I can recall where he had a rough patch of form and many on here including myself were questioning his spot at our club. Well well wasn’t I wrong.. he is as quiet and humble as ever, when he scores a try he will normally get up looking like someone just found out their dog died. However one thing that really impresses me about Toupsy is his desire to hit it up, he has been doing this for years and only now are wingers starting to do the same thing. He’ll break our tryscoring record and such a rewarding honour for his hard work over the years.

I hope he stays and I think he will, this is his home and family.

Young is really a centre, always played centre, only changed to wing at the Knights.
              Welcome new centre Young.
Toops wing, Young centre, Manu centre, Suaalii wing, I like it.

toops has been playing some of the best footy of his career of late and you'd figure he has a few more years left in him. with the salary cap exemption for long serving players can't see us letting him go. young wants to play centre and apparently robbo says he's open to that which means we've got options covered if suaalii leaves or manu moves to 5/8 when keary retires

Maybe about 6 years ago I was screaming for Toops to be sacked. But geez he's come good. He is super reliable and hardly makes a mistake. One problem for me is that I don't think I've ever seen him score a weaving, length of the field, runaway try.

Maybe that style of play is stuff from the olden days, but it still happens in the current era. Just how fast is the guy? Does anyone have footage of him scoring long distance tries?

I hope he breaks SKD's record and he sure as hell deserves another premiership.
1985: 1 try vs Parramatta, 1 try vs Manly, 1 try vs Wests, 2 tries vs Souffs
1986: 2 tries vs Illawarra, 1 try vs Balmain, 2 tries vs Norths.

Hopefully Toops plays again next year ... but succession planning wise, on the left wing there's the British import "Lewis Murphy" and the apparent Suaalii 2.0 clone "Tavita Henare-Schuster" as well to consider.

The day we no longer have JWH and Toops in our side will be a sad day. Easily the two best blokes on the team.

                          But are they big enough?
And can they defend on the outside?

The Sydney Roosters are in talks with the Newcastle Knights to get an immediate release for English winger Dominic Young to play in the opening round of the premiership against the Dolphins.

News Corp can reveal the Knights have asked to swap the English Test winger for a Roosters forward.

The Knights were keen on either Nat or Egan Butcher, which the Roosters have rejected.

There is now talk of the Roosters offering compensation with a transfer fee.

The Roosters signed wingers Corey Allan from the Bulldogs and Jaxson Paulo from the Rabbitohs during the off-season.

However they are desperately keen to add Young to their roster.

Young signed with the Roosters earlier this week from 2024 onwards.

He said he was committed to playing out his final year for the Knights before the two clubs began negotiations for a swap.

very interesting. Glad they kept the Butcher Bros though. make it happen for 2023 Uncle Nick!

Give them Baker and Thomas and throw in the Souths rejects to seal the deal.
