The Sydney Roosters are in talks with the Newcastle Knights to get an immediate release for English winger Dominic Young to play in the opening round of the premiership against the Dolphins.

News Corp can reveal the Knights have asked to swap the English Test winger for a Roosters forward.

The Knights were keen on either Nat or Egan Butcher, which the Roosters have rejected.

There is now talk of the Roosters offering compensation with a transfer fee.

The Roosters signed wingers Corey Allan from the Bulldogs and Jaxson Paulo from the Rabbitohs during the off-season.

However they are desperately keen to add Young to their roster.

Young signed with the Roosters earlier this week from 2024 onwards.

He said he was committed to playing out his final year for the Knights before the two clubs began negotiations for a swap.
I don't like to get ahead of myself, but it sounds like this could happen.

Would we let Wong or Sitilli go for Young this year?

        Doubt it.
        Whyte probably a bigger chance.
A bit down the pecking order now.

            100%

if they redid a roosters team of the century/all time Easts team now Toops is the left winger

Rumour: Swap is on for Paul Momirovski (which goes against the DT article).

PS: Happy to see Sitili Tupouniua or Fletcher Baker go (if the Knights want a forward).

No way should either of the Butcher brothers be considered !

He can't defend. Perfect for the rest of the Knights boys.

He has huge attacking upside though and still has years ahead of him to develop. I would defintiely not get rid of him just yet. I can think of 5-6 forwards in the Top 30 I'd get rid of over him.

                    FROM SMH re St Helens

Rather than see NRL clubs poach the likes of Welsby – for the record, Saints want to extend and upgrade his current deal – Rush said his club was eyeing Australian potential, including off-contract Rooster Daniel Tupou.

“A few names were put forward to us, and Daniel Tupou is someone we would be silly not to be interested in,” Rush said.

I see him as being a Guerra-style forward. Not a SBW or a Cordner but he always seems to come up with slippery plays right when you need them (and just as I'm going 'aaaaw faaark take him off!!!')

No stats will ever prove this but I swear I've seen so many situations where we're behind by a small margin and Sitili's pulled off a key linebreak that either bags us a try or puts us onto the front foot. The stats will say he's otherwise been average but if we're behind with 10 to go, he's one of the guys I'd be looking for...

So, if toops and the newbie play on opposite sides ...why does Toops have a decision ?

I still think Toops is the best winger in the game. And he's a Roosters legend about to hit the long serving discount.

Why would we let him leave?

I can frankly see Young forming a centre pairing with Suaalii with Many moving to 5/8 come 2024.

I wouldn’t get rid of Sitilli under any circumstance, he is our most potent attacking forward & bid defence is nowhere near as bad as what people make out on here, I was just putting it out there.
The Knights would want a top line forward if they were going to swap Young not a Baker Whyte or Momo.

Nothing against Sitili, mate but I'm just looking at the query that if the Knights want a forward and they've requested either Nat or Egan (I'm against that proposal) ... so out of the all the players that would be considered (Nat, Egan, Fletcher and Sitili), I would rather let Fletcher or Sitili go.

There is far more upside for the Butcher brothers so I would rather they stay with us. Put it this way, Fletcher Baker before Sitili (as I would rather keep Sitili). Siua Wong still early days and looks promising so it wouldn't be wise to let him go yet.

I don't think Fletcher Baker would be missed by many.
