How important is goal kicking to winning?Well this year it has played a bigger role than usual. We lost two games ( Cowboys and Titans) due to goal kicking. Even the Warriors' game would not have gone into extra time had we converted all of our tries.
In the SOO NSW were appalling, yet would have been on equal points in the dying stages of both games had they been able to kick their goals, with a chance of snatching the unlikliest of wins.
The extra 2 points , which sometimes give teams an added cushion, plays a major part in the psyche of players and how they handle the closing stages of games.
Which brings me to my obvious question. Who will handle our kicking next year? We'll need an 80%+ kicker to compete on equal terms with other teams, otherwise we'd be behind the rest right from the start.
