Believe me I hope he does. Loved Verrills, very underrated hooker and seemed to love our club. Hopefully B. Smith gives us an indication as to why Robbo signed him.

    EASTS TO WIN!

    • Given half our 1st grade squad is out at the moment, I thought the boys had a real dig today and showed some real ticker.

      Pros
      1. Lindsay Collins was immense in attack and defence, played the full 80 and never stopped giving 110%. Showed why Trent has challenged him to step up and take over from JWH as the forward leader. I liked at one of the drinks breaks Fletcher Baker went to sit down and Lindsay told him to stand up and be part of the huddle (and not show the opposition he was tired).
      2. Jake Turpin looked really good out of dummy half gave good service and was great in defence.
      3. Sammy's goal kicking and some of his deft kicks to get us repeat sets.
      4. Jaxon Paulo took a leaf out of Toops book and did some tough hit ups to help out the forwards.
      5. Joey S making some awesome tackle breaks and constantly posing a threat.
      6. Seeing the absolute champion player and human Joey Manu back in our colours.
      7. I thought Bakers first stint was good, ran hard and straight.
      8. Raiders and Paramatta are 0-2 to start the season and the Vermin lost.

      Cons
      1. Teddy's drop ball that bombed a certain try
      2. Joey S hogging the ball and nearly costing us a try, then throwing a dodgy flick pass that killed our momentum and not long after led to a NZ try (But his good far exceeded his bad)
      3. Cheese being added to the injured list
      4. Attack is still clunky, but with more games and returning players/improved combos we are going to continue to improve.

Overall it wasn't a pretty win and we were far from our best, but it's still a win and I was really proud of the boys for showing so much heart.

You could also see some combos were starting to shine but the boys still lack cohesion and timing. This is obviously down to missing key personnel but it encourages me to know it will click sooner rather than later.
I loved every bit of Walkers game today, none of the fancy stuff but geez he played it tough in attack and defence.

Also liked the moment where Suaalii nearly bombed the try, you see Tupou & Teddy laughing in the background but you see Walker give him a serve. Not only did he nearly bomb that try but he forced the kick out wide which we obviously failed to convert and kept it at 12 point game instead of Teddy putting it under the (Pending him catching it of course ) to make it a 14pt lead.

Very crafty short kicking game too.

          • Maybe I shouldn't watch live games this season. A good talisman perhaps.

Very happy getting the first win of the season.

They did very well in that first half, 19/21 completions at one stage. I guess the heat and fatigue played a big part for both teams, the Warriors outderped us in the second half and were also disadvantaged losing up to three players verse us losing the Cheese.

Fletcher Baker, hasn't played first grade much lately and I thought he was excellent today. Really helped out his mate Collins who was also great leading from the front. I was nervous about our bench coming on but the reserves did themselves some justice today. I think that poke in the eye Ben Thomas got made him rocks not diamonds but good to see he stopped passing the ball after that.

Walker was best on ground today, took the heat off Keary who did throw some pressure passes early but nice touches later on - that inside outside pass he threw could have gone anywhere but hit Sualii for Sams try.

Both our halves having a run early was good to see.

Teddy, great captains knock in the first half, 133 metres, looked linebreakingly dangerous. That bombed try i'll have to forget, probably won't see that from him again this lifetime.

Which leads me to the next almost bombed try and a select few players.

            Sualii
            Egan Butcher
            The Cheese

Very rocks and diamonds atm. Brandon is unlucky to have injured himself the last two games but these guys are playing frantically between the ears. We looked way better when Turpin was on, Joseph was in a mood to win the game on his own, yet very 50/50. He reminded me of an out of control Kikau at times today and I'm glad Walker called him out on his own try, if we bombed that we lose imo. Hopefully just a fine for that silly tackle.

Needs more defensive training at centre. Obviously. But man, when he gets it right it's going to be huge.

Egan. The guy does have a future in firsts with us. So much raw talent and power he needs to reel himself in a bit, watch the tackling and don't over chase. He's going to get better. Nat was a hard read today, wasn't bad but I saw some stats that say he was better than he looked, so he got through his work.

Tupou, Jaxon solid, welcome to the Roosters mate, grab all the doubles you like. Manu, obviously underdone and picked up an injury in the warm up? Good to see him soldier on we needed him just to be out there today, that pass to Paulo for his second was unreal.

I saw the class in the team today, even with 6 blokes out but that's Robbo's "Roosters Way" even though that saying is a bit overdone. It's that frantic Chooks team we saw last week and the second half today that is hard to watch, but when they're calm and composed they give themselves a chance to win.

I can and cannot see us winning next week, we know these games can get firey/emotional against the scum, we never come out on top when its like that and even though we may get our Warhorse back next week, (whose retirement will be felt just as much as Fittlers) he won't be starting the season with a bang. I mean, I hope he does but its common for him to work into the season slowly.

Radley will be a big inclusion beside Jared though, and if the Cheese can string together more than 10 minutes on the field I give us a chance. Small but a chance nevertheless.

It won't happen but what if Turpin started the game to lay the platform for Smith to come on later and wreak havoc out of dummy half?

            Just a thought.

            GO EASTS

              I was too.
It was very hot and humid, very energy draining.
Fans were dripping with sweat, their shirts soaking wet as they took their seats.
              Very tiring for the players.
Our team did very well in trying circumstances.

              • So watching the highlights again this morning…

Sualli deadset looked inside with what appears genuine intent to pass, saw it was teddy, then went himself.

                It felt deliberate

Our song was written by the wife of one of the Paea brothers I think. Mickey or Lopini..

I couldn't understand a word of what Redcliffe were yelling so good on you for deciphering Dolphin speak...

                      • Collins was inspirational, Fletcher Baker finally ran hard and was instrumental in our go forward - pleased to see him have that game today it looks like we are going to need him. Paulo is proving a few people wrong he had a ripper of a game. Finds the line well and was good out of the back.

Teddy coping a lot of flak but I thought he was courageous today plenty of tough stuff - kick returns he always takes the hard run.

Turpin getting a lot of love today - whilst he was good I really think he needs to pass sooner more often. He takes a couple of steps way to often and it ruins ball runners momentum. Hopefully that's easy to fix.

Sualii finally made a few long runs, broke the line and gave us a glimpse of what he could be. Sure he made a couple of bad errors or decisions but I liked most of what he produced today outside of that.

Big Lindsay - that may be the turning point for him to become our pack leader. Unbelievably good. That turn amd chase and try saving tackle then there to shepherd the ball dead from the kick was all guts. He was gassed behind the tryline after that and they went to give him a rest and 1 min later he's taking a hit up - did he actually come off and go straight back on? Was at the game so missed what happened there.

Hats off to you Lindsay he gets all 12 Dally M points in my book!

Pretty much spot on. I did like how dangerous Joey S looked in the centres although he did a few silly things, his running from there was so dangerous.
Jaxon Paulo looked good yesterday, taking the ball up, scoring two tries and then having that successful challenge from his play the ball.
Jake Turpin looks a very handy buy.

Just wondering when Easts got the penalty with under a minute to go to half time why they didn't take the easy shot at goal when they were leading 8-6, would have pushed the score to 10-6, instead with the tap they had about two to three plays that lead to nothing.
