  • Fletcher Baker - What are your thoughts.

I just wanted to get everyones thoughts as to how they think Fletcher Baker has started the season.

I was at the game on the weekend but felt like I didnt really notice alot of what he did however when I check the player stats they quite impressive.

His play the ball speed and tackle efficiency was near the top of all our forwards.

What are your thoughts on his 1st two weeks?

At the end of last year I was saying that he was too slow and that maybe he is too much of a traditional old fashion prop however I hope I can eat my words and I wish him all the best.

Played better last week. I still don't really rate him but would love to be proven wrong.

Well I didn't recognise him at first when I saw his first run because of how much bigger he has gotten since last season. Huge body. Doesn't really make many mistakes just doesn't bend the line as much. I'd put him ahead of Terrell May and Whyte currently just because he is more solid with ball carrying. I don't think he has a spot in the 17 when JWH and Lodge return though.

The only thing he lacks for me is leg speed & footwork. Apart from that as long as he makes his tackles, holds the pill and doesn’t get dominated in contact it’s happy days.

I like Baker. he's got 32 games up and he's got the size and the athleticism. they can't all be stars at the same time, and he's only just turned 23. I'd like to keep him long term.

I was at the game on Saturday ... Fletcher played well, better than last week for sure but probably was overshadowed by Lindsay's near 80min + 'man-of-the-match' performance !

Personally, I see that he lacks aggression and that killer instinct/switch to really "go hard" at the opposition which could be why we connect it to other factors like he lacks leg-speed or footwork !. Hopefully over time he gets that into his game. I know some here will say that "he's not that style of player ... he can't be like JWH, Lodge and others blah blah" well, I get that but in order to cement a starting spot and continue to stay with us/play first grade, you're going to have to develop that style or he'll end up playing reggies or in the Super League very quick.

Anyways, hope he gets better and proves me wrong !

The thing with Baker is that coming up he played mostly 2nd row where his athletism and ball playing ability come more to the fore. At prop he is still very much learning.

He’s ok as a backup forward. I feel safer having him on field than the other two mugs!

Thought he did alright. Particularly in the first half

I thought he went acceptably well in that game within the constraints of what I consider acceptably well based on his past performances

On an unrelated topic, and speaking of aggression, I would have loved to see a Roosters forward snap that scumbag fkaufusi in half. Alas, I don't think there's such a player in the squad who's on the field long enough to get the opportunity.

                          He went 'ok' on Sat.

But is average and will be like a lot of average first graders that will play around 30 games then disappear

Just out of curiosity are there any Roosters players that you rate?
