Spot on. I actually thought he was ok the other night in his return. Especially considering all he did was tackle in the second half, cause we had no ball, after a long lay off.
The Verrills vs Smith horse has bolted, it’s time to move. I was team Verrills purely because of salary cap/roster management but I think Smith has a much higher ceiling and I hope he gets through the rest of the season unscathed.
So, he can have an off season in Bali on the piss?
He has offered nothing so far, except excuses.

I think a lot of the blame needs to go on Robbo over Smith (cue the 'you are a Robbo hater', he is the lord and saviour crowd).
Smith's style of play has never really changed. His go-forward, team first attitude and hard running will always be an asset to a team. For that reason, I don't want to write him off yet. Is he worth 800k? Absolutely not, but the deal is done and we are fans not salary cap/recruitment specialists.
Robinson IMO is trying to mould Smith into a Jake Friend style hooker - who lacks the guile and class of a Sam V, but is a tough tackler, excellent defender and can kick us out of trouble. I think he saw the loss of Friend as the biggest out of all the squad losses of the past few seasons hence the Smith acquisition and ruthless disposal of Verrills. Smith is a tough tackler and good runner but is no Jake Friend. Smith's style hasn't changed from when he was at Melbourne. He lacks class/service quality from hooker and doesn't have a kicking game. I think everyone thought once he was handed a chance by someone to be the main hooker in a side, he would all of a sudden gain these traits but that isn't the case. It's on Robinson to fit Smith's style into the team, rather than mould Smith into someone he isn't. He has played nearly 150 games, won a comp and is 27 years old. He isn't going to drastically change his style or all of a sudden become an 80-minute game managing, tackle machine like Friend.
I think Smith's best role is to play from the bench as a 14 exactly like he did at Melbourne and have a good service hooker like Turpin play for the first 15-20 mins of the game and the last 15-20 of the game. He's an expensive 14 indeed but as I said, the deal is done on that front and doesn't mean he can't contribute to us while he is here.

Let's cut our losses and offer Cheese to the Titans as a straight swap deal for Tino ? (he can head up to the Titans and play a rotating role with Sam V or play as their primary lock forward) whilst we get another class forward/leader.
We keep Turpin and see how he goes for the next season or two whilst we see if Tyler Moriarty becomes anything good/special for us or wait and see who hits the market in the future. If Turpin is good enough, we can stick with him as well. This may sound 'harsh' but the return on investment (Smith) has been a massive let down and is fast turning into a liability and distraction for club and culture.

Jake Friend was a much maligned player from our fanbase until the 2013 premiership just like JWH, Mitchell Aubusson, Daniel Tupou and others who were disliked by fans until the first Robinson premiership came once the team starts winning again the chatter about Brandon Smith will cease
