  • Brandon Smith

I am not sure if Brandon Smith is money well spent . Seems to be to slow out of dummy half and lacks creativity around the ruck . He is untested at NRL level , as he was always behind Cameron Smith and now Harry Grant . His best position is off the bench as a impact forward , so is the the money well spent . We should have gone after Api from the Tigers or Reed Mahoney

Remember loads of nuffies saying the same about Teddy after the Tires beat us 1st up in 2018. It will take at least half a dozen games for him to find his feet, work out or combos, plays etc. That's if we are full strength, but considering Crichton probs won't play this year, Sitilli out for at least half the year & now Lodge out until close to mid year it will be far harder for him as he will be playing with a powderpuff pack that csnt make metres or protect him for half the season.

He's untested at NRL level apparently, but was Dally M Hooker of the Year in 2021.

I hope Smith goes very well.
But i wouldn't have signed him.
I don't rate him as a dummy half
Not a good passer or kicker
Purely a bullocking runner who needs a quick play the ball.

I think he’ll be devastating once he gets more game time and gels with the established spine.

he’s worth the money and he’ll have the doubters eating their words. In 2018 it wasn’t until after the Anzac game R9, that Cronk and Teddy really clicked. If we’re patient, Smith will show his worth.

I think he will enjoy next year getting Spencer Leniu quick play the balls

He’s a world class hooker, who has had two injured games behind a forward pack struggling to gain momentum. He’s the kind of bloke you would love to have in the trenches with you. Will prove money well spent come finals time. Trust me.

Posts like this sum up the current state of this forum. 2 games played and he’s played minimum minutes due to injury. Only two years ago was the hooker of the year. Robinson pulled all the stops to sign him…for a reason. Looking forward to him tearing it up this season, a great addition and he’ll thrive in a (hopefully) soon injury free team. Pathetic thread. But the norm on this page currently.

Early days yet - I Liken it a bit to Craig Wing fitting into a new team in 2000 and B Smith has also picked up a couple of injuries as well which limited his game time

If people were expecting or thinking that B Smith would be an 80 minute player they may need to think again - I think 50 odd minutes would be the optimum game time for maximum impact.

                    B Smith is 94 Kgs 180 cm's and he did lose weight compared to Mahoney - 86 kg's and 175 cm's / Cook 88 kg's and 180 cm's / Koroisau 88kg's and 172 cm's / Grant 87 kg's and 175 cm's

Mahoney/Cook are regular 80 minute players as dummy halves and Grant will be playing more 80 minutes games

So does B Smith improve he stamina and lose some weight to get under 90 kgs in line with other comparable dummy halves to increase his game time ?

Patience Owlface....he will find a groove later in the year and give us another dimension to our ruck play.

Many on here questioned the signing of Cronk in 2018 even after half way through the season as the attack hadn't yet clicked. We all know how that ended.
Not saying Smith will win us the premiership this year but let's at least give him a chance to shine and get over his injury.

What about Lodge? No prop plays quicker than him.
