Biggest devastation is to come with JWH retiring.
I think the post is defections not retirements

If I remember correctly Mark Murray was coach and Big Jack was in an oversight role at the time.

Yes we did speculate about that bit too..

Oh dear..well Latrell Latrell The Musical can go play out his dramas elsewhere on someone else's stage, whilst the professional cool calm Roosters get on with the business of winning games.

The other day, on Linkedin, someone had posted a front page of the Tele because of something work related for them, and sure enough guess who was also on that front page..

He is still a huge Easts fan and see him at majority of games.
Yes a lot of us remember those days well. He'd forced the players to continue to train through September even after failing to make the finals. That was one of the days when he nearly ran me over speeding down the road here to get to training for games we were not even playing in. Ryan had a good job over in Perth and when he came back, he was able to continue his career in finance as I used to see him in Martin Place all the time. He'd see me with my Roosters bag at the same bus stop near the station and would always just say hello in passing. I remember his mother also passing at a very young age due to ovarian cancer which is the worst and quickest kind and the club having a day in memory of her against the Warriors to raise funds for cancer research. It's stuck in my brain because my own mother passed not long after that and I'd missed that game as ironically, I'd been dragged out to watch a very boring Wallabies match at Homebush for a work commitment. Was only telling a work mate about that yesterday as he's off to Hong Kong this week to go watch the rugby.

Just saw your post now after I'd mentioned that I just bought another of Jack Gibson's books and the ebay page had a photo of Noel in his Manly jersey in the book..The other day, I was saying about how many criticised Mick Crocker when he played for us but then was lauded when he played for Melbourne and the Vermin..by the same people..

I was upset when Marty Gurr left Easts, great fullback who took over from Rusell Fairfax, very solid from late 1979 to 1982 but Fulton would sometimes start Boustead at fullback before Gurr coming back in, in 1983 when a lot of players had left the club Gurr was superb at fullback, he had a great understanding with Kevin Hastings and more often than not when Hastings launched his radar like bombs, Gurr was under them planting the ball down for tries, he was excellent in defence also. He had a fallout with coach Laurie Freier and went to Souths after the 1983 season for a year before signing with Manly in 1985.

If Toups has to go because of the reserve grader knights winger, that'll be the worst ever for me

Yes the one I meant was Paul Dunn to the Bulldogs. It killed me as a kid.

live and let live i say. it's a free country - players can play where they want. only if you were in the inner circle would you know what promises were given and reneged on and then you might have reason to be pissed off. we've had a lot of good players defect to us

I cried when we let Finch, Firman, Fletch, Soward... and Ricky Stuart go..... well I actually laughed until I cried.

Paul Dunn really stood out in 1984-85 seasons for Easts, he was a big loss, i couldn't stand seeing him in the Bulldogs jersey, he was one who we shouldn't have let go. He eventually came back for a season right at the end of his career after stints with the Dogs, Penrith and Parra.

Toops should retire a one club player, like JWH and Rads. SKD should have finished that way too but it was not to be due to other circumstances involving that other trouble maker player Robbo should never have signed.

Losing Sam Obst to super league - or did we just misplace him down the back of an old couch or under the car seat?

The more I think about it, the more I think Wing was very underrated. If he remained our 7 instead of Finch, he could well have been a triple GF winner. I think his pretty boy good looks make us underestimate him.
                                My best players:
                                Coote
                                Latrell
                                Wing
