Bingo. IMO hating on him is a bit like hating on real estate agents who get you a good price using a heap of puff and high pressure sales tactics.

This is their job and SOMEBODY has to advocate for players' best interests. I love Nick because he's sooo good at business and understands all the games/tactics that agents use to sell their products (in this case player contracts). However, this makes it all the more important for players to come prepared when dealing with him.

FWIW I think 'Trell is an example of somebody who didn't come prepared and then tried to game Nick with comparatively amateur tactics (and little transparency). He found his place eventually but it was nowhere near as smooth as how Sua'ali'i has done it.

Like it or not, we can now plan ahead which I'd argue is all that Nick/Robbo wanted. 2023/24 we have Sua'ali'i as a bargain youngster. 2025 we can sign whoever. Whereas with 'Trell Mitt... he forgot that we were also looking to make sure we retained Manu, Toops, JWH, Crichton...etc so couldn't wait indefinitely for him to make-up his mind. If he wanted to play FB and nothing else then there was no future for him at Bondi and we could focus on players who were happy playing centre with Teddy as FB... not a difficult discussion if done properly.

This was always the risk with this type of player on these special/unique playing contracts. We knew the risk and possibility of him leaving/defecting was going to happen. The money factor was too to hard to dismiss. Media outlet's are saying $1.6 million per season but guess what ? It's going to be much more than what has been reported ... it'll be close to $2 million per season ... Who in the right frame of mind would look the other way when a young kid like this has the opportunity to make himself some solid cash and set his life up, support his family, support his tribe/village in Samoa (he's a Chief !) all in under 10x - 15x years max of playing ?!

There was no way we were keeping him on any sort of contract, not to mention what flow-on-effect in future seasons that would've had with the rest of our squad i.e. keeping Manu, Teddy, Walker and others. We tried but we couldn't match Rugby Australia ... this is also a reflection of our sport, sponsors, small audience exposure (East Coast of Australia, parts of NZ and the Pacific) and our piss-weak 'salary cap' across the NRL. If we want to compete with AFL, Rugby Australia, etc then we really need to step our game up.

Let him go whilst he's still young ... earn some $$$ and if he gets bored, he can come back and if he doesn't ... well it was nice knowing ya !

Till then ... play to the best of your ability and try and win a premiership or two to at least walk out of the NRL/Sydney Roosters as an elite + premiership winner in the toughest sport (footy code) in the world !

PS: Stfu Gus ... you know damn well with Sua'ali'i still hanging around the Chooks, it only maintains or increases our chances to stay on track to win a comp and potentially go 'back to back'. You just want the Roosters to be weakened ... such a hater !

Definitely spot on. Same thing happened when RTS and Latrell left without getting Uncle Nick's blessing. Same two lackeys came out! Pathetic!

I wouldn’t be surprised if politics is a bit pissed off about it all. I would be as well

I wouldn't be suprised that Nick and Trent knew all along. Yet they "bookmarked" him to the Roosters which allowed us 4 years of him and that he would never play against us.(And someday return)

Hopefully not at the expense of younger development though.

I can’t watch that show on Monday night anymore as I can’t stand listening to Gus get on his soapbox every week.

This...its kind of bullying in a way.. I thought he had 2 daughters..how would he like it if someone publicly spoke about his children like that? I'm sick of grumpy people sticking their noses into our beloved Roosters...

He is a huge chance to help us win a premiership in the next two years and come back in 2028 (at only 24) as a stronger, wiser leader etc and win even more trophies

Why though ? Suaalii signed a 2 year contract (2021 and 2022) with player options for 2023 and 2024 which he took up when he he didn't have to.

Be a different story if he signed a new contract from 2025 onwards and then back flipped as they call it and signed with Rugby.

If he does come back to League would the Roosters agree to a similar type of contract demand - 2 years ( 2028/2029) and 2 player options for 2030 and 2031 - 2031 being another Rugby World Cup year - I would highly doubt it

Well he can take his outdated gaslighting BS somewhere less public and focus on his own club. What happens at Easts stays at Easts. He's like a nagging ex-wife sticking her nose into the business of the husband's new family...
