I flicked over from Foxtel to 9 at the end of the game to get the player interviews and inside the dressing rooms. The first thing I heard were the commentators crapping on about how the depleted eels were so brave missing their players! We had more out than them!

The players deserve better commentary. Ch 9 is free to air so that justifies the commentary team to say anything they like to fit the tabloid stations brief. As for the pay for view subscribers to Fox/ Kayo it’s a form of self flagellation having to listen to such bad commentary. The NRL media partnerships negativity and sub standard commentary a blight on the game but the general public are easily fooled by their tabloid brief in which all partners financially benefit.
The style of game played by Easts last night was outstanding and vintage like but both networks failed to mention it.
I am looking forward to watching the upcoming northern hemisphere Diamond League athletic meets. The athletic commentators are by far the best of any sport in particular Brit Rob Walker.

I don't watch a lot of afl but was watching a game on Friday night and found myself wishing we could swap commentary teams between the two sports. They seem far more neutral and don't take any little thing as a chance to elevate their voices to basically a yell like Ginane. The NRL commentators always seem to me to be trying to sell the game and make it seem that more is happening than actually is. They don't let the football do the talking. I know not all the NRL commentators are like that but whoever they have as the main caller is.

Ginnane is the worst. Closely followed by Shane Flannagan. I'm convinced Ginnane has a book of cliches that he reads from when he commentates. It's so aggravating to have to listen to him. And Flannagan brings absolutely nothing to the table.

The commentary just about ruins watching the game. I find I often turn it right down when we don't have the ball, and have it on very low the rest of the time. Surely they must realise that they have supporters of both sides watching, but they often seem to take one side from an early position, and it is almost always NOT Easts.
ginnane is just a babbling fool, Ennis need elocution lessons, Voss is a realweirdo with all his ridiculous stats...... like the first try every scored by a red headed second rower in the 31st minute of a game to put his team in front at half time, he just never shuts up.

Further to my weekend media analysis I posted previously, I purposely watched todays Ch 9 Footy Show. Fittler and John’s were woeful. Slater an improvement but needs some elocution also.
It was noticeable he didn’t get involved with the Fittler and John’s banter/sexual innuendo.
Finally,
Danika Mason the host, the intelligent one on the panel. Looks aside she knows her stuff. The sooner she uses tabloid 9 as a springboard the better otherwise they likely will burn her.The Ch 9 wardrobe dept also does her no favours. She wore the wrong shoes with her long white dress.
Danika really needs her own show on another network. A lifestyle/ sports/art show.
She is quirky and engaging. She could easily have a program based on the Dick Cavett formula who was a stand out American TV host. For those that don’t know Dick Cavett look him up, Johnny Carson no comparison. Dick well respected by the intellectuals such as writers Baldwin, Vidal and Welles, civil rights activists like Brando and was a very close pal of The Greatest.
