Here is the thing about last year. Without Lodge we don't go on that winning streak. Too many busted ageing forwards. Even if we had beaten the Dogs and Dragons to remain in top 4 contention, we still needed to beat the Storm in 2nd last round to make top 4. It was the necessity to beat the Storm which ended our season. JWH busted hand and Collins suspension.

This year is the same as every year. If we are not good enough to make the top 4 despite starting slow, then we are likely not good enough to win it anyway.
Surely you cant believe this rubbish we intentionally start slow . Have played the game at a fairly high level like a lot on here no way players ever wanted to start the season slow . You play to win . Always

Glad you explained that as no adult should cry over a loss especially normal round games.

Disappointment & anger yes but it's just sport.

I will admit a tear might have dropped out after losing to the Broncos in 2000 GF after such a long wait for success.

But I made sure that was in private afterwards after coming home from a BBQ.

It is impossible to maintain peak physical condition. If you do not understand that concept then I can see why you would think it was rubbish. Since this is feeling a bit like 2018. Here is what I said back then.

In the Sharks game I can see Robbo attempting the same mistake-free power game like last year. It took a lopsided penalty count and multiple sin bins to tilt the game in favour of a good Sharks outfit. That is despite us missing many forwards, and including an unfit Lodge. This team will rip it big time in a month or so.

I nearly cried 2 weeks back when I raced down to my local TAB to put on my Footytab bets & they closed early due to unforeseen circumstances.

We lost to the Storm so I saved money anyway.

They all do it a bit differently. It doesn't have to be at the start of the year.

If you believe we treat week 1 the same way as a finals game then join Coggy in writing us off and bagging the coach at the start of each season.

I think he said we have no heart. I’ve seen no evidence of the players having no heart. I think we’re just not executing properly. We tried to play the opposite of the previous week against the Storm where we made way too many mistakes and were terrible in the rain. This time the completion rates were actually very high but we just couldn’t get our attack going. It was a very simple, dour game.

Barring injuries this year our best chance since 2019. I can see another forwards' assault coming, and with more depth this time.

                                Well said !

Another point to make is that it may be a few more weeks as well to really find form with players returning i.e. Angus, Sitili and then Origin duties etc ... so hold on tight, people !
