Keary is good enough to play either half… but he is best as a running 6… best on the edge… where he can use his pace… though he has lost a step… which is why he isn’t as effective anymore
Walker is a scheming ad lib unorthodox 7… a young Alfie Langer if you like… he’s not an edge player… and his level is not predictable… that’s not his fault… he’s only 20
I never said I wanted Robbo gone… just his love child removed from the squad… but things have also been getting a bit tiresome around here these last 18 months don’t you think?
I know you don’t ever wish to criticise this club or anyone associated with it… but that does not necessarily make you the best fan… at some point you’re just enabling the underachievement

Sam is young and will bounce back.
The suggestions to perhaps drop Rads or Keary are ludicrous and will never happen. They are considered leaders within the team, and Kez is still one of the best players in the business.
How Hutch avoids reggies continues to be unfathomable, and I get the hysteria on this one.

You can see how the Cronk and Keary combo worked - Cronk the controlling and organising half and Keary playing his instinct and eyes up footy so neither got in each others way and their roles were defined - no blurred lines on what their roles were.
Chook Pen Favourite the Hutchinator is a controlling or organising half - the only other half back with this trait is Sandon Smith.
The Keary and Walker Combo will still have issues going forward due to them being the same type of player - Whether they can change either of them into a controlling or organising is to be seen.
One would say it is too late for Keary to change so it will have to be Walker.
Our attack looks cluncky AF, but that's not just because of Keary & Walker, it's also because Smith is still learning how to play with them & Teddy, and they are still learning how to play with him. Just like when Cronk arrived, it is taking time to gel. We don't need knee-jerk reactions, we need time to develop the combo's.

If he doesn’t make the team for Anzac Day it will be a test of what he’s made of. I’m not sure, but I think Flanagan sealed his fate with his reaction, or rather inaction, to him being dropped. Time will tell.

All those good and great half combo's had one controlling and organising half and one running/instinct and eyes up half- To have two of the same type won't work - one has to change and that has to be Walker.
You can’t teach the type of vision and instinct in his game and you only confuse him and stunt his development if you try. If Walker is to be the long term half back then Keary, as the senior player, should step up to the organising role.

Watching him play against the Sharks, I also remember thinking that he looked like a young man with a lot on his mind, like some of the joy has gone out of it for him. Perhaps it is just that he's juggling playing first grade with the usual struggles of being a young man growing up in a harsh world. We certainly haven't seen that boyish, beaming smile from the past few years. Maybe taking him out of the pressure cooker of first grade for a bit is also a consideration?
I hope we see him back and killing it as soon as possible. He's been a joy to watch these past few years and we'll miss what he brings.Last edited by Intercept; 04-19-2023, 07:20 AM.

While we are at it, let's keep Hutch in the side at centre, he's been doing such a good job.
Nothing would rile Radley up more than dropping him for an ANZAC Day game. Would be perfect opportunity to get him to open his eyes back up. Best thing for our season is if St George roll us this week with Sam missing.
Why didn't he put him on the bench at least & not use him & only use 3 like he stupidity does regularly.
