I am so glad that the majority of the pen are finally realising that Robbo isn't teflon and are seeing through this demotion as being desperate and clueless as opposed to "ruthless" and "cunning" like he would want you to think. Ruthless would be getting rid of Drew Hutchison from the 17, telling Momorovski to find a new career and giving Radley a spell knowing how much the jersey means to him. These decisions would all be for the good of the club. Dropping Sam Walker to ressies when he only shown improvement week in week out is laughable. No he hasn't been great this year, but who has? Maybe Collins? Toops solid as usual. Paulo a good surprise. Can't really think of anyone who has stood out. I can think of people worse than Sam who will likely never be dropped from the team. Sam has improved his goalkicking, his defence which were weaknesses, and has tried to take the lead more than he has in the past couple of years. He has also won us games on his own with his ball playing and game winning field goals. What more does a 50 game 20 yo halfback need to do at this stage? Does anyone truly believe his natural game is to chip kick out to the wingers on every last play or throw a crash ball. Do we think he hasn't got a short kicking game and doesn't want to run at the line even though we have seen and were told these are his biggest strengths? Fuk no. He has been taught to do otherwise and because it's not working, we are dropping the player and not the system. Shows Trent's biggest downfall, his ego. It's him first, Roosters second.
In my opinion (not worth that much), I think Robbo is panicking and wants to get Manu's hands on the ball as much as possible and is struggling to unlock our potent threats with them at centre despite proclaiming for the past year and and a half how he would. He isn't looking any further that that.
As far as the argument usually led by King Sally of "well he's the coach and you're not" and "well they play for the Roosters and you never will". For an informed and seasoned person, such a myopic and dumb argument to make. An argument like that would basically make this and any other forum open to the public for opinion irrelevant. Nobody can truly believe Hutch being in the 17 is good for the Roosters. In fact, if I was a Hutch sympathizer like some on here i'd be miffed because he doesn't even get the chance to play in the halves as next man up (his actual position). So Robbo doesn't trust him to play his natural and true position but rather will get his vicarious fave to play 10mins out of position and look out of depth, or worse, not use him at all and try and win with a 16 man bench again with a centre at five-eigth.
If we win this week it won't change or justify the awful selection decision made because we can't truly win a comp with Momo and Hutch in the side and Sam out of it. Would never want the Chooks to lose, especially on Anzac Day but what does he do next week if we do? Would be very interesting to see.Last edited by HunchoRooster; 04-19-2023, 01:01 AM.

I know you miss the Hutchinator so here's another pic

On the surface, this looks like an unusual decision at best.
Radley is certainly the one who I would be putting back to reggies straight away for a solid month, to reflect on his reckless play over the season so far (and late last season too).
Walker hasn't set the world on fire this year, but he hasn't been poor either.
I suspect something is going on that the public (us) aren't privy to. One thing I noticed last year (albeit not sure if ive seen it this year) is that Sammy was bullied a little bit on field at times by his collegues....I saw Teddy and Keary both very visibly blow up at him at times back then, and even JWH once.
I suspect Sammy has a lot of trouble following instructions and the game plan....I think that may be the crux of it, and may be why he has been demoted, despite not being a standout poor performer. If you've got a garage full of ferraris like Teddy, Manu, Sualli and Toops that aren't getting any gas (because Walker has pocked the gas money) then thats a problem.
Either way, we won't 'lose' Sammy as a result of this. It'll likely be a 1-2 week spell and he'll be back again with renewed determination.Last edited by Steakface; 04-19-2023, 02:22 AM.

I am not sure that working out combos can still be used after 7 rounds into the competition though as Tedesco/Keary and Walker for instance have played together enough times and they would have been working on this new spine combo pre-season and at training leading up to every next next match.
For example Penrith have a new dummy half in Luke in their spine / Dolphins have had several new combo's in their spine who have never played with each other before and they are winning games.
I think it goes a bit deeper than the combo's taking time to gel though
2022
It could have been a combination of switching Keary and Walker plus Watsons new role and E Butcher's impact in games and a change in fortunes that was the catalyst for a change in performance and not solely switching Keary and Walker.
Winning is a habit as they say and no doubt teams gain increased confidence when winning consecutive games or going on a winning streak
It could also have been the fear of failure that spurred them into action - The playing group as individuals and as a collective suddenly realising that they could miss the finals if they didn't pull their fingers out and start winning games.
We may never know

Walker is a scheming ad lib unorthodox 7… a young Alfie Langer if you like… he’s not an edge player… and his level is not predictable… that’s not his fault… he’s only 20
I never said I wanted Robbo gone… just his love child removed from the squad… but things have also been getting a bit tiresome around here these last 18 months don’t you think?
I know you don’t ever wish to criticise this club or anyone associated with it… but that does not necessarily make you the best fan… at some point you’re just enabling the underachievement
League is at its best when scheming, opportunistic halfbacks niggle their natural ability to turn a game on its head, none of that nonsense required at Roosterville apparently.
