  • Whatcha doing for the Anzac Day game?

Can't say I'm a big military dude - parents are wogs, in-laws are Vietnamese and daughter's Japanese so I'm not the sorta guy who walks around with a lemon-squeezer hat and a heap of medals.

However, it's a bloody good day off and (to me) a good bit of time to reflect on how lucky we are that we're not currently having the shyte bombed outta our country. War's super tragic and there's never any winners.

I'm fortunate to have in-laws from Vietnam who have a deep understanding of war and are keen to spend the day with our family. My father in-law has expressed interest in watching a footy game with me so the ~4pm time-slot works quite well as we can watch the footy with snacks/beers and then do a barbie for dinner.

Curious - what are others planning to do? TBH this is one of the first games for a while that I'm gonna enjoy as a bit of an event rather than focussing on us winning/losing. I don't like cricket and AFL but I can appreciate that since both are quite long contests it's fun to have a day with family/friends where a sport's playing in the background. This is the sorta vibe I might try to capture for this one so that everybody can wander around the house freely to do their own stuff, but the footy's there if anybody wants it.

Looking forward to this game more than usual!

    Indeed.
We're not being bombed into death, misery, and destruction today because of the sacrifices of so many from this land who left and went to fight those who actually did bomb us and would've killed or enslaved us.
And fought their allies in Europe who were bombing London etc into ash, and marching thru Europe slaughtering millions.
Anzac Day is not a glorification of war, but is for remembering the fallen, those who never came back alive, and those who did return injured for life physically and mentally.
Also remembering all of our people who have served the nation in war.
Without them we would not have the freedom we have today.

It will probably be a standard day for me Bit of work early then off to the gymnasium for a workout followed by a 1500 metre swim Then back home for lunch and later on watch the game

        Great post BB.

Now watch for the likes of Lidia Thorpe to publicly try to make the day all about her.

The only 2 things I miss about living in Bondi/Sydney are my favourite eateries and going to the footy, especially the big games like the Anzac Day Clash against the Dragoons.

My day will start with a surf then walk the dog and home for a big breakfast. Cold Chisel will come on around 11am when I start cleaning the BBQ. Roosters jersey comes on around midday and i'll probably start getting nervous. Beer o'clock around 1 and mates start arriving. I can't wait! Go Easts!

          Lest we forget.

I'll be at the game but the only problems is Im going to have to get there early around 1.30 to get a seat in the members which will mean more time to drink which means $10 beers. Its going to be an expensive day so the Chooks better win.

The first thing that I'll be doing for the Anzac day game is asking it "Where have you been, I've been waiting an eternity for you to get here".

Similar to Bates, I have left Sydney and I miss going to the games. I reckon that I went to almost every home game at the SFS in the 90s. I lived 5 minutes walk away but I sold up and ran away about 8 years ago. Any talk of war will inevitably lead to political talk since politics causes all war, not men. I will tell my own roosters to wish us good luck, as I do before almost every game, and I will hope that Alexander and Roach have the day off on Tuesday. I picked up some NSW beer and I will enjoy them as I watch us put the sword through the Dragons.

Hahaha I could play that tune to my in-laws. However they're Viet Cong and probably aren't that keen on banging jaded Chinese princesses.

Might play Cheap Wine instead while pulling out a box of Dannamanns.

Do you think now is a good time to let the Pen know about our future plans?

Let them count their roosters before they hatch. We will be remembered as the John and Yoko of the Chookpen. Our future doesn't take into account that time is an illusion, which Einstein said in the past, which is not really in the past since time is an illusion.

Drove up already for a week in Sydney, dawn service at Coogee beach(it was fantastic a few years ago, especially with the sun rising up over the ocean) work my way to easts leagues after lunch, before heading out to the game.
