Comment in Support of - Drew " The Hutchinator " Hutchison
It's really tediously boring this incessant beating up on the Hutchinator one has to honestly say which has also now unfortunately extended to personal attacks/character assassination and even derogative name calling which is more akin to what I used to hear on a public school playground back in the day
I think we all get it even from the first post that particular folk on here don't rate him as player or even as a person now so is it really really really necessary to keep repeating this ad nauseum though ?
Whatever you think is irrelevant as Coach Robinson is not of the same view.
For the record his 2021 in the red white and blue was very good/tops especially when you consider Drew's limited NRL experience himself and playing with an 18 year old rookie half back in Sam Walker and the injury toll throughout the year
Drew also missed 6 weeks of footy himself after suffering 3 fractured ribs and collapsed lungs vs Parramatta - Brown's Knees in the Back - Lungs actually collapsed 3 times which can be very serious and required emergency surgery.

When Sam Walker first started playing in NRL Drew Hutchinson was the 5/8 - Drew had only 15 games of NRL experience himself at that stage - Dragons 2015 (3) / 2016 (1) -ACL / Roosters - 2019 (4) / 2020 (5) - 2021 (2) Before moving to 5/8 in round 3
2021 - Sam Walker Half and Drew Hutchison 5/8
15 games
10 Wins
5 Loses
Sam Walker Half with Lachlan Lam as 5/8
4 Games
2 Wins
2 Loses
2022 - Sam Walker Half and Drew Hutchison 5/8
1 Game
1 loss to a red hot Parramatta side especially their first half - 26-16
Drew played 20 games in 2021 and 25 games in 2022
Surely even if you don't rate or like a player you can at least respect any and all players who are currently wearing the famous red white and blue jersey of the Roosters - Is that too much to ask for ?

Just like Lindsay Collins didn't learn how to hit the ball up or defend any better in reserve grade but he did learn how to improve his ball controll.
Joey Manu didn't become a better attacking centre in reserve grade but he did improve his defence.
In my opinion you can certainly isolate and hone in on skills for development at NSW Cup level that aren't up to First grade standard.
learning how to lead a first grade professional attack is not something Walker can develop with a bunch of park footballers he doesn’t know from Adam. He needs to learn it from the established leaders in the side like Keary and our coaches like Cronk. If he’s underdeveloped in that area that is the fault of the coach and senior players, and not something he can work on solo.
I reckon we are no better than 50% chance of retaining Walker beyond this season

His last performance at centre was against Melbourne three weeks ago, they scored three tries down his side and one near try. There was literally a moment in the game where Munster chipped for his centre and Hutch ran out towards the wing with Hutch not noticing until the ball was in the Storm players hand and scoring a try.
This time if the team remains the same he goes up against Valentine Holmes who is an Australian international and Origin star that scored 6 tries in a game at the World Cup and was the joint leading try scorer for Origin last year, this isn't a guy that struggles to find the try line and he isn't going to struggle to make Hutch look like a reserve grader.
For me personally I'm not a huge Hutch hater, as a back up utility player to Turpin and Watson or even as a back up half if Keary has injury concerns he'd be fine but I can't just get into him being named every week and being our back up centre, it doesn't make much sense especially after what Melbourne did to him.

He's better off staying with us than going elsewhere...he's only 20 and still learning what it takes to be "Cooper Cronk".
He should see out his contract and then decide his future.
Sam is in the squad mix, same as Turpin, Brown, Hutch, Allan etc.
The competition for a spot in the 17 is hot.
Warriors were "too big, too strong, too fast" over the 80 mins.
Their players were giants compared to ours.
Our boys played well in attack but not so well when defending against the muscular giants.Last edited by bondi.boy; 05-03-2023, 03:54 AM.

Hutch would be a slug at centre in reserve grade. Fans don't question his selection as a back up 6 or 7....and at a stretch 9 even though he struggles to get to dummy half as he is that slow and looks gassed the whole time. As a centre he is farking abysmal. At centre this year he has been embarrassed and let the team down numerous times. The funny thing is it isn't his fault. He doesn't have the skillset to play there, but the coach keeps putting him in a position where he is way out of his depth. Fans are allowed their opinions. Hutch seems like a good dude, but I couldn't give a fark about that. I just want our strongest team possible to take the field out of the players that are available that week.

But everyone can see his limitations at centre except for Robbo which the fans have a right to question.
Trouble is if the great Robbo is off limits in criticism in a lot of people's eyes then obviously their criticism will be directed at Hutch.
I have backed off on criticism of late due to the fact that "Winners are Grinners" & Robbo's decisions are working for the team Atm.
It is a results based business on what Robbo is assesed on & in Robbo we trust. But if we lose Walker due to the Hutch & Manu position anomaly thing going further then Robbo will have a lot to answer for.
We can't win the Comp with Manu at 6.

I haven't seen them play but they're down the bottom of the ladder whereas the Bears (with more size across the board I think?) are up the top.
Size doesn't always win games but when it's reggies and your talent's stretched out between two teams, I think it sorta does make a difference.
