  • I don't know Suaalii stats for the season but last season he was getting us 200 metres a game and starting our sets off on the front foot.
This year he is stuck on the left edge and his only play is catching an unders ball from Keary drifting across the field and cutting back against the grain.
Meanwhile he is going to pick a left handed Hutch to play right centre where he will have Deardon and Drinkwater skipping at the defensive line with Holmes sharp left foot step attacking Hutch who is as slow as treacle.
I'm not getting into the who should be picked in the side argument but not recognising your players own natural athleticism traits and having them on the wrong side of the field is poor coaching in my opinion.
Zac Lomax was dropped this week for poor form when Hook has played him left centre all year. He like Suaalii has a right foot step, right hand carry with a flick pass. These attributes are completely wasted on the left edge and easily defended by his opposite driving inside out and hitting at the ball. It's not under 12s when if you are bigger ,stronger and faster you run around people.
The only time we saw Suaalii looking dangerous was when Teddy went off and he played fullback so he could drift on his natural right side and used his skip and flick pass.

They have to kiss his arse so he one day comes back. He clearly struggles defensively at centre. I'm with Gould. Piss him off now and I hope the door hits him on the way out.

I still think he's a weapon and better to have him in the side while we can. I do think he's been fairly putrid at centre. He doesn't seem to have a pass in his locker and his runs from our own end are non-existent compared to off the wing last year. His reading in defence at centre is shocking. His best trait is the AFL-style leap tries. I haven't seen anything from him that indicates that he anything more than a very athletic winger, which is where he should play for us.

        • Suaalii was always going to be on the left side if playing centre though.

What always surprises me is the number of players that can't pass or have problems passing from left to right even in junior and senior reps.

Maybe one of the reasons why players play one side and not the other

Right foot/leg forward to pass right to left

Left foot/leg forward to pass left to right.

Seen many a player do a 180 to be able to pass from left to right.

When Rads goes to hooker and with Manu at 5/8 it leaves all the ball playing to Keary and makes us very easy to defend against in that period.
Brown is still a shifty, tough tackling hard running player who is always in the game and offers a point of difference, thought he was our best player last weekend.
i get that it's good to be loyal to players that have come up through the system but brown has pedigree and could help us win a comp. we should give him a go sooner rather than later

              This is so current
so many wanted him playing centre from the start only to reason centre is getting less utilised each year in right league and why everyone wants to play fullback, where at least on wing you can carry the back 15 or 20 times and make 200mtr
he has no step and no fend or footwork in contact
it’s amazing how different playing right to left can be

                    • The question I'd like to ask is what effect is Cronk's tuition having on Sam. If the Cronk style requires a lot of 'thinking' then is Sam doing too much thinking and not enough 'doing'!

                        Yes I agree

Also what concerns me is why has Sammy’s form gone backwards under Robbo and Cronk’s coaching?
Shouldn’t he be improving under Cronk’s tutelage?

The whole situation is confusing and makes no sense to me,hope we don’t lose the kid..

Yes but don’t forget Hutch has been lauded by our coach as the new Aubbo. So isn’t it just great to have Aubbo playing regularly in the team?

True. But for that to happen we need multiple results to go against us. We can only control 1 result, so no doubt they’ll focus on that and reap the reward.

There must be stuff going on behind the scenes that us supporters just aren’t privy too. And I really don’t believe for a second that Sam and family aren’t completely pissed off about his axing.

I hope you are well Mate.
