bit out there suggestion, but i reckon with the halves you have to pick and stick, and it seems for a while thats what Robbo will do with Manu/Keary. I think everyone agrees Walker is a long term solution - so my idea, loan him out to another club and get a player in return for the year. give him some FG experience and bring him back next year.

So i think - what do the roosters need - with Manu at 5/8, Momorovski long term injured, Suuali still learning centre - we need a centre. so for the rest of the year, a solution woukd be a swap with the dragons Walker for Lomax - goal kicking centre, obviously doesnt like Hook, so needs a change, and gives Sam FG experience

    Thoughts?

I get the dilemma of having two small halves, having the possibility of solving it with Manu, and then having Young play right centre with Paulo beside him next year. But I can't see us risk losing Walker, and Keary is not an organiser. We also imploded last year by experimenting with Keary at halfback.

I reckon Keary leaves end of 2024.

Loaning a player out with 50 NRL under his belt is not a good sign to the player. It isn't like Grant with the Tigers.
Way too much of a risk at losing Sam and I doubt it's even crossed the mind of Robbo tbh.

Yes we have two small halves and yes neither have a long kicking game.
But hey if we don't lose Teddy with that illegal tackle or Gus to concussion or Toups to his groin injury then we go close to winning it last year. We had a very good finish to the year apart from that semi. So Keary at 5/8 and Walker at halfback worked for us last year. It seems a few of our guys are out of form or positional switches and different combos have not worked for us yet this year.

This is very true and something we don't talk about enough. Yes, two small halves. Yes, two defensive liabilities but the fact is we were one of the best teams in the comp last year and when we won 8-9 in a row nobody was saying Walker had issues to work on or that we didn't have enough size in our halves. We won close arm wrestles and blew teams away, was good variety in our wins. Wasn't a fluke. Why we are throwing that combo at the window now bewilders me and 90% of the fanbase it seems.

          • Since dropping Walker we have beaten a Dragons team by 1 point that has since lost to the Dogs and Tigers; we have scrapped a win vs the Warriors in a good defensive performance; and been flogged by an average Cowboys teams missing Nanai and Lolo.

Dropping Sammy has been a cataclysmic disaster to date with the team looking worse than ever.

During our 8 game winning streak to end the regular season last year, we looked as good as anyone bar Penrith. We just left the run too late and got hit by injuries.

And our best effort this year by far was the win vs Parra.

That was with a Walker-Keary combo.

It staggers me that Robbo thinks there's a better option than trying to be a better version of that team with the same halves going forward.

We have significantly weakened our centres to weaken our halves as Keary now has to do everything at a stage of his career where he's no longer capable of being that 2018 GF player.

Madness. Madness. Madness. And the proof is there for ALL to see.

I don’t think our performances have gotten better or worse with or without Walker.

I also rank the Warriors win as the best of our season, to say we scrapped it is misleading. We were very good in the game on a number of levels.

I don’t think the argument for Walker is this years results..

Our only path to a Premiership is with a Keary-Walker halves combo. They aren't at that standard yet, but that combo finding a rhythm and firing come finals is the only way we win a comp.

A lot of hard drugs would be needed to suggest that this version of the Roosters with Joey at 5/8 is on a path to a Premiership.

                    Excellent summary Tommy.

And let’s also remember that our win against the Warriors was with them having a whole bunch of players out, including their captain and their fullback.

We have been a rabble since the Parra game and anyone thinks otherwise needs to remove their rose coloured glasses. There are only a few players that are playing well at the moment and most of those have just come back from injury.
The coach has performed quite badly, with dud positional decisions, persisting with players that shouldn’t be in the top 17, his inability to motivate the team and his inferior game plans. The impact on this team from the loss of Fitzy from the coaching staff ranks up there with the impact felt from Fittler’s retirement.

Welcome! It ain't a 1/2 bad idea, but we are in strife if Kez gets another head knock or Joey smashes his face again.

This could be quite a long & painful season for us.

I don’t think we will lend Walker out. We need him for depth. As for Lomax being a goal kicker, his form is way down. I don’t think he’d be kicking at even 30% from the sidelines at the moment. Plus he makes too many handling errors. Maybe he’d fit right in.
