  • Teddy's comments

Teddy's comments overnight as quoted in the press are a concern to me because reading between the lines it seems that he is saying that Manu will be staying at five eight for at least a while.

So despite the team playing complete rubbish, it sounds like the halves will stay the same.

We can't score points so lets banish the one half we is capable of coming up with moments of brilliance and who is the future.

I agree with Dice's recent comments - Robbo is playing too many players out of position and it is just crazy. Keary, Manu and the union traitor are all being played out of position. That is almost half the backline playing out of position for crickey's sake.

Keary is not a halfback and is a shadow of his former self, due to probably a combination of age, the ACL and head injuries.

Manu can't pass unless it is a flick pass so that isn't that useful as a five eight.

The union traitor is a shocking centre.

I have to wonder what Cronk shows the halves at training. It musn't be the very effective out and then in ball that he and Slater used to such good effect so many times when Slater would catch lazy defenders sleeping with lightning pace on the inside up the middle. We hardly do any such moves, whenever we do it often looks dangerous but it is very rare. Most of the time we just throw the ball from side to side in slow motion this year.

I used to love Robbo but this year I am convinced that he has lost the plot. I hope I am wrong but with his stubborn nature, I am worried we will cop a hiding this weekend and will struggle to make the 8.

Uncle Nick pulled a completely unexpected masterstroke back when he secretly convinced Bennett to join our club when no one ever thought it was possible. I think Uncle Nick needs to get on the phone to Bellamy however unlikely it may be.

I think Robbo also has a knack of experimenting during the early part of the season to see what works and what doesn't before deciding on the best combos in the second half of the season.

What happens if Keary goes down before the semis (touch wood)? At least Manu has had a few games at 5/8 under his belt. OK so far that experiment hasn't worked. We have no real centre depth but we have wing depth so try Suaalii at centre. OK so far that experiment hasn't worked either. Now that Smith has come back successfully we have another option there now. Otherwise it is Momo, Hutch or Allen. And based on last year's form why wouldn't you try to bring Suaalii closer in. I recall that is what everyone here was saying last year. Let he cast the first stone who didn't. Many also said that Keary should retire because of his head knocks and have Manu play 5/8. Get the stones out again.

So I can see a reason behind some of these positional switches early in the season. I doubt that come semis time that we are going to have Suaalii at centre and Manu at 5/8 unless we have major injuries or there is a massive turnaround in their form.

      Bellamey? Come on.

We may not make the semis if Robbo continues with his "experiments". This is not s science lab but footy. As Dice mentioned on another thread, he experimented with Keary at halfback last year and that was a disaster.

When asked about the halves, part of what Teddy said apparently was: "It's a work in progress, but I'm enjoying having Joey in there and I feel like it's going to keep getting better and better".

In other words, we are going to stick to the way it is.

I guess he couldn't question it publicly or show no support publicly when asked about Joey playing five eight. I guess he was put in a awkward spot with the question, he couldn't exactly say that Joey can't kick or throw passes to his centres or play a normal five eight role and that instead he is more lethal out wider and when he can roam around like he did last year.

That's right. He did experiment with Keary at halfback. It didn't work and he swapped it. We made a run and should have gone close if not for the grubby tactics of the grubs and the ref letting them get away with it.

Let's see what happens leading up to SOO and then the team after that. It's a long season and we are equal 3rd playing shit footy.

all i'd read into teddy's comments is that he doesn't know for sure that sammy will be playing hb this week. joey also said he hoped he got a few more games at 5/8 but in the same interview said he was looking forward to sammy returning. both of them are team players and will go with the flow

What Teddy was actually saying was it’s going to keep getting better and better…….because it couldn’t get any farking worse.

Thought Teddy nailed it with his interview on the Roosters website - not sure if it’s the same piece of media you’ve seen.

Main Issue agains the Cobwoys wasn’t tactical it was the effort areas.

Admitted he’s not playing well at the moment.

Said defensively he feels we are in a good space - which I agree with.

I stand by my comments on Keary and players out of position. Just saying that if our forwards fire we can still beat the top teams. That is how highly I rate our forwards this year. And to think we still have ex-rep players Brown and Napa vying for a spot.

Our forwards didn't fire vs Cowboys. It did seem like another case of losing to weaker team on Sunday in expectation of big forwards clash on the following Friday. I say we are paying overs vs Panthers.

Liked James honesty and frankness. No hiding. Must’ve been reading the Chookpen and felt sorry for Trent.
