  • Our Kicking Game

I don’t think I’ve seen anyone mention this on here but one of the single worst things about this team is our pop-gun kicking game. It is particularly evident when playing against a team like the Panthers, with two of the best halves in the game. With Keary and previously Walker’s terrible kicks, the opposition is consistently starting their sets on our 30m line by contrast we have to battle hard to get it out of our own end. This is not to mention our attacking kicks, correct me if I’m wrong but I don’t think we’ve scored off a bomb all season. And things have been made considerably worse by the introduction of a non kicking half into the mix.

Unfortunately I don’t see a solution to this problem, last year I thought maybe they should have pursued Matt Burton but that ship has sailed.

Looks like they are brining Lindsay Collins into the halves, he had a crack last night

Part of the reason for the lack of trys from bombs are because defensive players are being allowed to block our wingers/centres. Its not the only reason, just one of them

Our kicking has been criticised on here countless times..
People on here would rather be nostalgic and bury their heads in the past sands of success ..

If Walker walks.. Can we please go for Shaun Johnson or Ben Hunt ( I know.. slim ) ..

These are established Halves who can direct and lead

Keary isn’t a halfback and this isn’t his fault.

And it's not a short term thing. We have been poor for years in this department & also will be next year again when its a Keary/Manu combination once Walker is gone. Robbo also loves not having anyone to kick goals & convert 4 points into 6 for some reason. Not that it's a drama in 2023 when we can't even score tries to begin with though.

I’m sick of having two halves who can only kick 30 metres long and 20 metres high. My 12 year old can kick longer and higher.

I’ll bet he can kick longer than 30 metres.

IMO you could tell the difference because Penrith had Cleary and Luai kicking. They completely destroyed our kick returns using the simple tactic on getting somebody to tackle our player as soon as they caught the ball (then pushing them back in most cases). Essentially meant we were doing 4 tackle sets.

To their credit, ALL their balls were perfectly weighted too. I mighta just been blinded by the 1-way traffic but none of their kicks in-goal went dead. Thus, when they were's scoring we were either doing a drop-out (which we s*ck at - side note NQ somehow perfected the short drop-out which killed us) or getting 4 tackles before a kick (usually an ineffective one with no real plan).

Dunno!!! My footy IQ's too low to know what we need so I'm not gonna get on the blower and pretend I know what's best. However, we have the talent. We just don't have a plan!!!

Hutch will no doubt come in at 7 next week so he will add a bit of distance to the kicks. Not sure he'll set up 7 tries though.
How is Sandon's kicking game? Asking for a friend.

Scoring from bombs,we had no problems when JS was on wing and Walker kicking....this left 3 players well over 6 foot Manu,JS and Topou...first 2 as we all know are out of position.

Those punters that kick at halftime can kick more than 30m!

Just about every poster has mentioned our kicking game as a problem from round 1
