Yep. You need to identify what's missing and then get creative with who's available. In this instance. The Dragons are struggling! Griffin will get the boot which makes Hunt and Bird free agents. Then it's a simple case of freeing up cap space.

It's also easier to top up a players salary with the appropriate TPA if they have played rep footy. This is the player managers job.

I'm a bit different on Bird, the Pen being harsh. He's a good solid utility and done well as a backrower but you are telling me we would sign him even though he's on like 600k and doesn't have a set position. Where would he play for us other than bench utility?

Luke deserves to go out on his terms. He’s been a legend for us and played arguably the best individual grand final in history in 2018.

But he’s done. We won’t win anything while this is ‘his’ team.

I don't think Keary is done per se. I just don't think he as good as what many others think. He has only ever performed consistently with Cronk as organiser. When Keary signed I said he was a bit bigger and faster than Maloney and would prove to be a slightly better 5/8th. I have also said the same about Brooks vs Keary and was ridiculed for it. A bigger and faster running 5/8th with some other skills. Not an organiser, not a superstar. Yet I bet close to 100% of supporters believe Keary on a different level to Brooks based on multiple premierships won at different clubs, and I also bet the same people remove the premierships criteria when assessing Momo.

Anyways, rant over. I just don't think we will pay big money to keep Keary especially with the concussion risk, and also proving too difficult for us to protect two small halves defensively.

If we let Walker and Suaalii go it's probably an even swap.
Would Hunt go a 2 year deal ? He's just turned 33
Bird is 28. not a centre anymore , too slow, but a 14.... yes, 10 times better than the Handbrake and only double the money.
They are both good players.
I'd hate to lose Walker, maybe he could be a 6 and we let Keary go.
Maybe we can find someone who will take the Handbrake.

Handbrake's replacement was/is always Connor Watson.


Unless I've missed something or there's something else behind the scene ... he is the utility and I don't see why we would go for a slightly bigger body but also a slower #14 option ? Watson was playing very well for us towards the back end of the season last year ... just unfortunate that this injury set back has a lengthy lay-off and rehab period.

Many are very close to the mark, Walker will not be one leaving, his 2 uncles I’m told are stirring the pot in QLD, the 2 that are mos t likely will not be playing against us anytime soon, if all pans out, a day let alone a week is a long time in footy these days
