Hi Dice ,Walker is not ready! By the time Sam is ready he will be off contract and in high demand. Potentially $1mill plus a season

I believe we can win 1 if not 2 comps with Hunt. Personally I'd let Keary or Sam go early.

Keary has been a great player for us… a certified legend… no one can ever take that away from him

And he’s still a good player now… but something is holding him back

Perhaps he’s lost a yard of pace but I saw some burst again the other night… so I’m guessing it’s just a mental block about playing 100mph again given how many times he’s been knocked senseless… I don’t blame him

Similar thing going on with Turbo these days

And if you don't think the status quo should be maintained do you show loyalty to Keary? or do you keep the rising star?

So if both Walker and Keary are difficult to protect defensively and neither has a long kicking game - why would you be keeping either of them then - go to market and sign bigger body halves with distance kicking games if that the answer.

Keary is contracted until 2024 and whether he plays or not he will paid and that wage included under the Salary Cap.

There is no need to move Keary on and Keary playing on has no impact at all on Walker contract status as he is signed till 2025.

All players have ongoing concussion risks though and if Keary was at serious risk from a further concussion I am sure he would have been advised to stop playing and would have done so.

Boyd Cordner was given the green light to keep playing - it was a case of the body willing but the mind having doubts so he made the right call to retire.

I assume Keary is not at that stage in his thought process.

Because I’m reading it as ‘they’ meaning you, have no say.

Heaven knows the club doesn’t want to guided by an internet search engine.
          Haha very good

With respect, you can say that about a lot of players though, for example Aaron Woods is still out there playing, he's an Origin winner, won the 2017 World Cup, 14 Origin games, 17 games for Australia, was a runner up for Dally M of the year, won prop of the year and many other accolades. Nobody is defending him as a good player though because all his accolades come from 5+ years ago and he's been well past it for at least 3-4 seasons.

Same deal with Keary, I'm with you that he was brilliant for us for a number of years, he won awards and was a star but his last great season was probably 2019. In 2020 he was good, 2021 he was injured for the year, 2022 he was acceptable and now in 2023 thus far he has been quite average. It doesn't really matter in 2023 that in 2018 he won the Churchill although I do agree with you that at one stage he was a star.

Also to add to the discussion on Hunt it is a salivating thought of Tedesco, Walker, Hunt and Smith making up the spine in 2024, not so sure on Jack Bird though...

Ben Hunt would be one. Walker hasn't fully matured and may make the weight and kicking strength in time.

Your answer appears to be honour the contracts even if it is not working on the field. Admirable and may even eventuate. Although I suggest that both of those players and Suaalii are worth more elsewhere than the value of their 2024 contract, and it is in the financial interest of both parties (player and club) to move on earlier if tapped on the shoulder by the Roosters. Especially if the tap is accompanied by a financial parting gift.

It is not just up to the player. It is the club that wore the cost (season over and financial cost) of medical retirement for Friend and Cordner, and potential future liabilities as well.

You're slipping. You could have used this to further push the case for the Hutchinator!

im the first to admit I am a shit stirrer, have been for a long time, very very rarely do I post about possible signing info, a very small amount of what this person has told me over recent seasons is off, the majority is spot on, lets just say he was so confident in his/her story compared to other times, i have no reason to doubt them, if they are off the mark, so be it, as I have stated a day is a long time in footy, things change, I hope on this occasion they dont

                    • I think the Ben Hunt speculation has gone way beyond where it should be.

It's the old Chinese Whispers - It started with a poster suggesting that Hunt would leave the Dragons if Griffin got the boot and has got to the point where he's a definite signing to replace either Walker or Keary.
Hunt has said he didn't want a new coach at this stage of his career. Whether that meant at the Dragons or anywhere he didn't elaborate.

While I think everyone looks better in a Rooster's jersey, I just can't see Ben Hunt in one.

Jack Bird is the Arjuna Ranatunga of rugby league but without the talent. Strap yourselves in for dropped balls, arm grabs and having a bludge in defence, if true.

A very sensible view. The 2023 Keary is a different bloke to the pre-2019 Keary. Not for me to speculate as to why, he just is.
