  • Mini playing in the same side as our new coach

A blast from the past. Also features Andrew Lomu and Peter Cusack for the Roosters.

The first break shown, the Tigers run straight past 38 our new coach. Hope he teaches his players how to defend better than that effort.

And Mini, very lucky to have a Tigers player ruled offside after he fell over his own feet trying to defuse a bomb.

Then before 1/2 time a pretty ordinary grubber is put thru and Mini goes back to pick it up or knock it dead and somehow knocks it sideways where the Tigers fall on the ball and score.

He was maybe more unco then than he is now.

    And his hair.

We had a team full of future 1st graders. They had a side with two blokes who went on to play a few first grade games each. We were the most dominant side in the semis that year according to the commentators. They still won.

That GF record has haunted us thru the 2000s.

    The FlogPen .

    You know it makes sense.

Well, I counted 3 players who went on to regularly play first grade. All three ended up with a premiership. In hindsight, I don't think any of them lose sleep over the game.

Mini was only 17... so I forgive his fumbles then, more than now at 32.

Yeah I agree mate, it wouldn't mean much now, but i did find it amusing that we had a lot of future 1st graders and they had only a few who played very little 1st grade but they still beat us.

Mini hasn't changed much IMO, edwardpenishands. And that hair, outstanding and slick, must've really pulled the chicks in his commodore. Imagine him in a tight white bonds shirt with a pack of ciggies in his sleeve and one in his ear. And a zippo. Fully siiiiiiiiick bro.

Lol, that dent chinned man, haven't seen that since I was a kid.

Relax... A hickie from Kenickie is like a Hallmark card, when you only care enough to send the very best! (I had to Poogle that)

I remember school holidays when you'd hang with chicks and theyd want to watch Greece and you'd have to go along with it cos that's what teenage boys have to do.

Sounds like you spent your adolescence with Nick Politis.

Lol, there's so many cracks I could open with that one mate, I better turn the other cheek and keep it in the pink.

One thing's for sure - seeing how few of 'the best of the crop' from 1997 ended up having NRL careers really brings home the magnitude of the achievement.
